Chico Pérez: «No existe una música más o menos pura que otra, ni un flamenco más puro que otro»

Chico Pérez (Jaén, 1994) es uno de los pianistas de mayor proyección del panorama flamenco actual. Aprendió de la mano de maestros como Dorantes, Antonio López o Israel Sandoval, en 2016 obtuvo la Titulación Superior de Música en la especialidad de Piano en el CSM de Jaén, tiene numerosos premios y ha compartido cartel con Diego Amador, Tomatito o Farruquito. Hoy, a las 21.00 horas, hará aparición en la Plaza de la Constitución de San Lorenzo de El Escorial para presentar su primer álbum «Gruserías» y regalar una música sin muros que fusiona jazz, blues y música clásica, siempre con la raíz asentada en el flamenco. Los que lo deseen también podrán verle el viernes 21 en la Plaza del Secreto, en Nuevo Baztán (22.00 h) y, al día siguiente, en el Patio de la Casa de Cultura, en Navalcarnero (22.00 h). ¿Cuál es el concepto que hay detrás del homenaje a Grusin en «Gruserías»? Grusin compuso la banda sonora original de la película «The Firm» y una de sus composiciones, «Memphis Stomp», me atrapó durante un tiempo. Me compré el libro y la tocaba con bastante frecuencia. Un día intenté llevármela al flamenco y terminé componiendo un tema totalmente nuevo, pero desde esa idea musical y técnica. Así nació la palabra Gruserías (Grusin más Bulerías), que después se convertiría en el título del disco y que al ser una palabra inventada, yo mismo le di el significado que tenía ese primer disco para mí. Al final «Gruserías» es el resultado de la unión muchos elementos musicales y sentimentales que se plasmaron en la grabación. ¿Creo que todavía no hay forma de estudiar piano flamenco de forma académica, ¿es así? Es cierto, no existe una educación reglada como tal para el estudio del piano flamenco y creo que aún quedan unos años hasta que eso ocurra. Fíjate en la guitarra flamenca o el cante, instrumentos de base del flamenco que llevan relativamente poco tiempo en la enseñanza. El piano es un instrumento «nuevo» en el flamenco, aunque desde hace años maestros como Dorantes, Chano Domínguez, Diego Amador, vienen haciendo un trabajo muy importante, aún cuesta que se normalice la presencia del piano en el flamenco y poco a poco se está consiguiendo. Tampoco hay unas normas establecidas ni unos patrones claros de cómo se debe o no se debe tocar el piano flamenco, al final es pura fusión con el jazz y con otras músicas. Muchas veces se intenta tocar imitando íntegramente a la guitarra y desde mi punto de vista es un error, la guitarra es un instrumento y el piano otro, y lo que tienes que conseguir es que el piano suene flamenco, sin necesidad de imitar cien por cien la técnica y el sonido de la guitarra, hay que aprovechar todas las posibilidades del piano. Tiene un tema llamado «Por Parker», ¿qué aprendió escuchando a esta leyenda del jazz? Sí, está dedicado a Charlie Parker y diría que es el tema más «jazzero» del disco. Creo que si quieres aprender jazz es totalmente imprescindible que lo escuches y lo estudies, es una de las grandes referencias y maestros del género y «Por Parker» fue mi pequeño homenaje flamenco a él. ¿Un flamenco puro e inamovible es posible? Sinceramente, creo que no existe una música más o menos pura que otra, por lo tanto no creo que exista un flamenco más puro que otro. Sí es cierto que puedes hacerlo de una manera más tradicional o interpretar lo que se ha ido haciendo desde el inicio del género. Pero si las personas no somos puras, ¿cómo va a serlo la música que hagamos? El flamenco, más que ninguna otra música, es una unión y fusión de culturas grandísima y por ello casa tan bien cuando se intenta mezclar o introducir en otros estilos, porque la gran mayoría son músicas de raíz que se parecen entre ellas más de lo que pensamos.
