BOC overshoots November collection goal
MANILA, Philippines---The Bureau of Customs (BOC) again exceeded its collection target in November with a surge in imports and rise in consumer demand as the economy further reopened. In a statement on Wednesday (Dec. 1), the BOC said its take from import duties and other taxes last month amounted to P58.8 billion, 13.4-percent higher than its P51.8-billion goal. The BOC's November collections were also higher than P43.7 billion in 2020 when imports fell due to pandemic-induced global recession.   MANILA, Philippines --- The Philippines recorded only 500 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the eighth straight day that the country logged new cases that are less than 1,000. Nigeria confirms first cases of Omicron among travelers from South Africa
  ABUJA -- Nigeria confirmed its first cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant among two travelers who arrived from South Africa last week, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) said on Wednesday. The NCDC also said retrospective sequencing of previously confirmed cases among travelers to Nigeria had identified the variant among a sample collected in October. It did not give details. "Given the highly likely increased transmissibility of the Omicron variant, it is imperative to put in place measures to curb community transmission," NCDC said in a statement.
