Go urges full use of gov’t drug rehab facilities
MANILA, Philippines --- Sen. Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go urged on Monday the full use of drug rehabilitation facilities with the active participation of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) in their operation. Go made the call during the hearing conducted by Senate Committee on Finance on the 2020 budget of both PDEA and DDB. According to a statement he issued after the hearing, the Philippines has 54 rehabilitation centers, 19 of which are operated by the Department of Health (DOH). The centers have combined bed capacity 5,300 --- which if not used would just go to waste. PPP 2019: Embarrassment of cinematic riches
Raymund Ribay Gutierrez's punch-in-the-gut drama "Verdict," about domestic abuse and the tragedy of being poor and female in an apathetic society, is the cherry on top of the third edition of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP). Gutierrez and producer Brillante Ma Mendoza's Center Stage team deserve kudos for a film that banks as much on the performances of emerging lead star Max Eigenmann, child actress Jordhen Suan and the late Kristofer King as it does on the production's timely thematic cogency. This Venice fest-winning film (it won the Special Jury Prize in the Orizzonti section) is a methodical dissection of a marriage that comes undone under the weight of spousa...Keep on reading: PPP 2019: Embarrassment of cinematic riches

Why Dennis Trillo encourages combat training for actors
Just like fellow actors Matteo Guidicelli, Dingdong Dantes and Gerald Anderson, Kapuso star Dennis Trillo said he once attended military-style survival and combat training, but this was to prepare for future roles that he was targeting. "As an actor, I believe that immersion and training are important. They help in terms of characterization," Dennis explained to the Inquirer. The actor said he trained under the Philippine Military Academy at Fort Del Pilar in Baguio City. "Alam mo kung saan huhugutin ang emosyon. You are able to empathize with your character because you know the difficulties he is experiencing; because just like him, you also went into training. Escape from Planet Earth
NEW YORK---Though I never saw this musical, Stop the World---I Want to Get Off, the title encapsulates perfectly my current feelings about the state of our planet. Everything seems to be going to the dogs, though that phrase is patently unfair to dogs, given how much more humane they seem when compared to many of the world's leaders. My feelings of hopelessness, of being boxed into a corner and hence the fervent desire to abandon Earth, have been stoked by two anniversaries. Last week was the 18th anniversary of the Twin Towers burning and collapsing in a massive heap of dust and steel, and ash and bone flew through the air.
