US Open: Things feel better for Naomi Osaka back in New York
NEW YORK --- Everything felt better for Naomi Osaka once she returned to the U.S. Open. The knee injury that forced her to retire during her last match no longer is so painful. The disappointment with her tennis that led her last month to say she wasn't having fun playing has been replaced by calmness. When she comes back to Flushing Meadows, she's a champion. And in many ways, she's home. "Yeah, I mean, I feel like I have a familiarity," Osaka said Friday. "That's not because I won last year. It's because I have been kind of hitting on these courts since I was a kid. I used to train here." All that training paid off last year for the Japan native who moved to New Y...Keep on reading: US Open: Things feel better for Naomi Osaka back in New York

Lakers plan to sign Dwight Howard
LOS ANGELES --- The Los Angeles Lakers intend to sign center Dwight Howard after he completes a buyout with Memphis, a person familiar with the decision says. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because the deal hasn't been completed for Howard to make an improbable return to the Lakers six years after his acrimonious departure. The eight-time All-Star selection will be the ostensible replacement for center DeMarcus Cousins, who recently tore a knee ligament after signing with the Lakers as a free agent last month. Cousins could be sidelined for the entire upcoming season, and Howard will team with JaVale McGee and Anthony Davis to play the center spot for the Lak...Keep on reading: Lakers plan to sign Dwight Howard

Trump asks appeals court to reconsider Twitter-blocking case
NEW YORK --- President Donald Trump hasn't given up his fight to block critics from his Twitter feed. Justice Department lawyers Friday asked the full 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan to decide whether a three-judge appeals panel erred in ruling he could not. They said the case has important implications for public officials who increasingly use social media, particularly on personal social media accounts. "If the panel is correct, public officials who address matters relating to their public office on personal accounts will run the risk that every action taken on that account will be state action subject to constitutional scrutiny," the lawyers wrote.
