S. Korea to acquire more anti-missile radars, interceptors to counter NK threats

SEOUL---South Korea plans to add two more ground-based anti-missile early warning radars and build three Aegis-equipped destroyers in the next five years in an effort to better detect and intercept incoming missiles from North Korea, the defense ministry said Wednesday. The plan was one of the key projects that the ministry unveiled in its five-year defense blueprint for 2020-2024 amid heightened concerns about North Korea's missile capabilities in the wake of a series of test-firings of what Pyongyang claimed were new weapons. The five-year plan calls for spending 290.5 trillion won ($239.88 billion), a 7.1 percent on-year hike on average over the next five years. Of the total...

WASHINGTON - She's done a lot with the place.   Like anyone who has ever spruced up their home, Melania Trump will have a few new touches to showcase Friday when guests visit the White House for only the second state dinner of the Trump presidency.   There's refreshed wall fabric in the Red Room, repurposed draperies in the Green Room and restored furniture in the Blue Room. And those are just some of the home improvement projects the first lady has overseen to keep the well-trod public rooms at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. looking their museum-quality best.   Some of the projects were long overdue.     Sunlight st...Keep on reading: White House upgrade: First lady’s done a lot with the place

Exit polls signal setback for Israel’s Netanyahu in election
JERUSALEM - In an apparent setback for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the longtime Israeli leader on Tuesday fell short of securing a parliamentary majority with his hard-line allies in national elections, initial exit polls showed, putting his political future in question.     Results posted by Israel's three major TV stations indicated that challenger Benny Gantz's centrist Blue and White party held a slight lead over Netanyahu's Likud party. However, neither party was forecast to control a majority in the 120-seat parliament without the support of Avigdor Lieberman, a Netanyahu rival who heads the midsize Yisrael Beitenu party.   Lieberman said th...Keep on reading: Exit polls signal setback for Israel’s Netanyahu in election
