To my amazement, one was selling copies of the first issue of Marvel Comic's new series "The War of the Realms, New Agents of Atlas," which features the debut of Marvel's newest superhero Wave, depicted as a Filipina water warrior from Cebu City.   Marvel never ceases to impress me with how increasingly inclusive it has grown within the past few years. It has expanded its storytelling through the creation of ...

Why Anne Curtis had to guide costar Marco Gumabao in their film’s sexy scenes
Marco Gumabao was all cool and composed while filming his intimate scenes with Anne Curtis for their coming sexy drama flick, "Just a Stranger." Or at least he tried to look like it. But on the inside, admittedly, his "heart was racing." "Of course, I didn't want to show anyone that I was feeling nervous, but I really, really was," he told reporters at a recent press conference for the movie, which opens in cinemas on Aug. 21. "It was my first [time] doing such kind of scenes," he explained. Making things more nerve-wracking for the 25-year-old actor was that his leading lady was Anne, whom he looks up to. "It was a privilege ... I couldn't believe I was paired with her. I was...Keep on reading: Why Anne Curtis had to guide costar Marco Gumabao in their film’s sexy scenes

Katrina happy being single
Katrina Halili hasn't been in a serious romantic relationship in seven years, but she doesn't mind. In fact, she said she's starting to appreciate life being single. "I realized that I'm happy even if I'm solo. I'm also enjoying work. Maybe it's because I'm becoming more mature and I know myself better," the actress told reporters at a recent press conference. While she's open to dating, Katrina said she has yet to meet someone she could see herself spending time with on a long term basis. "At this point in my life, I'm looking for something serious," she said. "However, I'm honestly not used to dating. JC Santos, costars no qualms about taking clothes off in ‘Open’
Wearing plaster was too painful for him," said director Andoy Ranay, who confirmed that actor JC Santos had opted to let it all "hang loose" while working on his sex scenes in their latest movie, "Open." "We had to work on several delicate sex scenes, and we were sure that the audience would notice it if we faked it, so JC said [we should] leave it up to him. He promised to be the one to make sure that his privates would not get exposed to the camera," Andoy recalled, adding that JC did manage to do that, but failed to hide it from costar Arci Muoz, who was in front of him. Andoy said the same thing happened while JC was shooting his love scene with another female cast member, ...Keep on reading: JC Santos, costars no qualms about taking clothes off in ‘Open’

Alanis Morissette susceptible to postpartum depression
While she actually enjoys being pregnant, it's what happens to her mind and body afterward that she finds difficult to cope with, singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette related. "I'm one of those women who actually enjoys being pregnant," she told Self magazine in an interview. "Even when I'm just sitting still, I feel productive; I'm still building a human being---which boggles my mind." However, she's also susceptible to postpartum depression, which Alanis had after her two previous pregnancies. So, as she recently welcomed her third child, baby boy Winter Mercy, Alanis said she would make sure to seek help from family and friends should she experience the same thing again. After Oscar-nominated short, animator wants to tell PH-based tales
Fil-Am animator Bobby Pontillas codirected the Oscar-nominated short film "One Small Step," about a girl who is raised by a single dad and dreams of becoming an astronaut. It reflects the artist's own background, having been raised solely by his mom in the United States when he was a kid. The first Taiko Studios project may have lost to "Bao" last February, but joining the Oscar race understandably had a profound effect on the Glendale, California-based animator. "In the weeks leading up to the Oscars, the support from the Philippines was so encouraging, and it really made an impact on me," Pontillas enthusiastically told the Inquirer. "I came away wanting to tell more stor...Keep on reading: After Oscar-nominated short, animator wants to tell PH-based tales

Brutal loss to Creamline adds motivation to Chef’s Classics
MANILA, Philippines---Chef's Classsics took one of the worst beatings in Premier Volleyball League history when it lost to Creamline 25-12, 25-5, 25-15, in the Open Conference Sunday at Filoil Flying V Center. The Red Spikers scored just 14 spikes in the match that saw the first two sets start at 16-1 with Alyssa Valdez, usually a first option on offense, serving 35 times. Skipper Justine Tiu was downtrodden after the loss, which she thinks should serve as a wakeup call for the team.
