Miriam Margolyes' Harry Potter Co-Star 'Didn't Like' Her Blunt Message For Films' Grown-Up Fans
Jessie Cave in 2021Former Harry Potter star Jessie Cave has admitted she doesn’t agree with Miriam Margolyes’ recent comments about the popular film series.Jessie played Lavender Brown in the final three Harry Potter movies, while Miriam appeared in the series as Hogwarts professor Pomona Sprout.Last month, the Bafta winner made an appearance on New Zealand’s 1News, during which she caused a stir for saying: “I worry about [grown-up] Harry Potter fans. They should be over that by now.“You know, I mean, it was 25 years ago, and it’s for children. I think it’s for children. But they get stuck in it.”Miriam added that as part of her work on the website Cameo, she gets requests for video messages from fans having “Harry Potter-themed weddings”, commenting: “Gosh, what’s their first night of fun going to be? I can’t even think about it.”Miriam Margolyes as Professor Sprout in the second Harry Potter filmAsked about Miriam’s remarks at Dream It Con over the weekend, Jessie admitted: “It’s such a shame that that happened.”She continued: “You know how she is — she’s just a bit funny. And I think she didn’t mean for it to be taken like that, I hope.”Jessie then added: “I really don’t like that she said that.”Back in 2020, Miriam explained in a Cameo video message: “I’m not [a Harry Potter fan]. I’m not against it, I’m just not interested.“I’ve never seen a film. I’ve never seen the books, I’ve never read them. I just pocket the money when it comes and I’m very grateful for it.”More recently, she claimed during her cover interview with British Vogue: “For me Harry Potter wasn’t important. I was very glad I got the part and I enjoyed being in it and meeting all the people, but it’s not Charles Dickens.”Since her 1News interview, Miriam doubled down on her Harry Potter claims again, telling Australia’s News Breakfast: “I just think that it’s for children. And if your balls have dropped, then it’s time to forget about it. You know, go on to other things.”READ MORE:Miriam Margolyes Is As Candid As Ever As She Shares Blunt Message For Adult Harry Potter FansMiriam Margolyes Gives Iconic Reason For Rejecting 500K Marvel RoleGraham Norton Makes Surprising Admission About His Outrageous Interviews With Miriam Margolyes

Rebel Wilson Reveals She Lost Her Virginity At 35
Rebel WilsonRebel Wilson has a heartfelt message for other “late bloomers” like herself. In a new interview with People, the Pitch Perfect star, opened up about losing her virginity at the age of 35, which she also discusses in her upcoming memoir, Rebel Rising. The 44-year-old said she had felt so “embarrassed” by the subject in the past that she even lied to her friend and told her she had lost her virginity in her 20s.“There was one vague time, I think I told my best friend, ‘Oh, yeah, I just did it to just get it over with when I was like 23,’” Rebel recalled. “Just to really avoid the questions.”The Australian actor went on to admit that she used to avoid discussing her virginity like the plague. “Normally I would just leave the room when the conversation was happening,” she continued.“And then the people that said, ‘Oh, at 24, it’s so late.’ And then I’m sitting here thinking, ‘Oh, my God, my number’s 35. What the hell? I’m going to look like the biggest loser.’”Rebel then spoke up about how becoming sexually active later in life should be normalised so younger people don’t feel “pressure”. “People can wait till they’re ready or wait till they’re a bit more mature,” she shared. “And I think that could be a positive message. You obviously don’t have to wait until you’re in your 30s like me, but you shouldn’t feel pressure as a young person.” Rebel, who welcomed her first child, Royce Lillian, via surrogate in 2022 with her now-fiancée designer Ramona Agruma, explained why she “probably would’ve” explored her sexuality more if she “had been born 20 years later”. “I just knew I was attracted to men, and that was the normal thing,” Rebel said. “And so when I started opening myself up probably more after my father’s death and realising, oh, even though I’d seen marriage as a terrible thing and waste of time, I started opening myself up to that.”“And then only years later, meeting women and having feelings for a woman, and that, I just think it’s a sign of where society kind of was,” she added.Rebel noted in a separate interview with People back in February 2023 that she never believed she was “100 percent straight”.“I don’t quite know how to define my sexuality, but I do know there’s a lot of people out there that don’t want to totally define it either,” she added. Rebel Rising is slated for release on 2 April.READ MORE:Sacha Baron Cohen Responds To Rebel Wilson's Claims After She Brands Him An 'A*****e'Rebel Wilson Says Pitch Perfect Contract Prohibited Weight LossRebel Wilson Calls Out Newspaper's 'Grubby Behaviour' After It Tried To Out Her

Fresh Blow For Rishi Sunak As Experts Confirm The UK Is In Recession
Rishi Sunak is seen during a visit to an engineering firm in Barrow-in-Furness.Rishi Sunak has been dealt another blow after it was confirmed the UK is in recession.Fresh data released by the Office for National Statistics showed the economy shrank in the final two quarters of 2023.That is despite the prime minister promising voters that he would grow the economy shortly after he entered No.10.The ONS announced last month that, according to its estimates, the UK’s gross domestic product (GDP) shrank by 0.1% between June and September last year, then by another 0.3% between September and the end of the year. This morning, they confirmed that those figures were correct.GDP is estimated to have fallen by an unrevised 0.3% in Quarter 4 2023.GDP growth was also unrevised for the other quarters of 2023.➡ https://t.co/6w320E6ledpic.twitter.com/6UhjZcLSJh— Office for National Statistics (ONS) (@ONS) March 28, 2024Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves said: “Rishi Sunak has broken his promise to grow the economy and left Britain in recession, with working people paying the price.“The Conservatives cannot claim that their plan is working or that they have turned the corner on more than fourteen years of economic failure.:Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesperson Sarah Olney said: “These damning figures confirm the damage done to the UK economy by Rishi’s recession.”But chancellor Jeremy Hunt insisted the government’s “plan is working”.He said: “Inflation has fallen decisively from over 11% to 3.4%, the economy grew in January and real wages have increased for eight months in a row.“Our cuts to National Insurance will boost growth by rewarding work and putting over £900 a year back into the average earner’s pocket.”Related...Gillian Keegan Thinks UK Economy Is Looking 'More Hopeful' – Days After Recession Was AnnouncedHow A Recession And By-Election Misery Sent Rishi Sunak Back To Square OneSunak Predicted Economy Had 'Turned A Corner' A Day Before Recession Was Announced

I Tried The World’s First Baseless Car Seat And It’s Perfect For This One Reason
Nuna Pipa UrbnChoosing a car seat as a new parent can feel like a chore. When there’s so much on the market, it’s difficult to narrow down the one. Then you have to keep up with the driving rules, am I allowed to have my child front-facing? From what age? Do they have to be a certain weight? Do I need a car seat base? Can I just strap the car seat in?These were a few of the 1000 questions running through my mind as a first-time-mum when I had my daughter. I ended up going down a rabbit hole of information only to be overwhelmed further and shutting my laptop after getting no where.Fast-forward to 1.5 years on, I am now what I would call a seasoned mother who is on the hunt for a car seat for my 17-month-old toddler, who seems to have outgrown her current Cybex Cloud Z i-size.But this time, I’m armed and I know what I’m looking for.Ideally I would like a car seat that can be used for future babies as well. So, over the course of the next few weeks I’ll be sharing my very honest reviews of a selection of car seats on the market. This week it’s the Nuna Pipa Urbn car seat. How does it compare to the rest? Read on to find out.Nuna Pipa UrbnPrice: £300 on Nuna website (price correct at time of writing)Quick lowdown: Baseless car seat with built-in ISOFIX system for easy travel.Lightweight at 3.3kg.The PIPA urbn features a removable, full-coverage UPF 50+ canopy.Rear facing only.Child height 40- 75 cm, child weight up to 13 kg. The reviewMy first thought was of course about the baseless feature — for any parent I think this is a plus point as you don’t have to faff around with a seatbelt to ensure the car seat is secure in any car.The easy ISOFIX system means that often, when my husband and I take it in turns to pick up our daughter from nursery, it means we can easily swap the car sear into the other car.For those who don’t drive and rely on taxis or ridesharing, this car seat is perfect for city living!Another positive is that the car sear is lightweight – this works in tandem with the ISOFIX feature if you’re constantly changing cars! It can easily be carried out of the car which means it won’t disturb your sleeping baby.It also comes with a full coverage canopy to protect your child from sun rays, additionally this feature is great if your baby falls asleep in the car and you want them to stay asleep undisturbed. Though the seat is rear-facing only, according to British safety standards a child should be rear-facing for as long as possible or until at least 15 months old. Which means it doesn’t really matter if it’s rear-facing only as that’s what is recommended. However, the car seat is limited in its longevity as it is not suitable for children over 13kg or 75cm. This means that unlike the Amana Siena Twist, which lasts from birth until 12 years old, you would need to buy a new car seat quite quickly.Considering the Nuna is priced at £300, this can end up expensive. Though if I compare to our current Cybex Cloud Z which is £329 currently, with which you have to buy a base separately, this works out much cheaper. In conclusion, for newborn to 15 months I would recommend this car seat as you can take it out of the car easily which is a must-have for parents of infants— additionally, if I could go back in time, I would probably buy the Pipa Urbn instead of our Cybex Cloud Z!The only thing I would knock points for is that it’s not long lasting, it is for infants. The verdict: 8/10Related...Amana Siena Twist Rotating Car Seat Review: Here's Our VerdictI Tried The World's SAFEST Front-Facing Car Seat On The Market, And Here’s What I ThoughtThe Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Stroller Looks The Part. Rail route of the month: cheese, chocolate and a magical ride to the Swiss town of Gruyères
The scenery – and delicacies – get better and better for our slow travel expert as she takes a local train through Canton Fribourg to a beautiful medieval villageIt was a handpainted sign on a wooden barn that piqued my interest in Gruyères. I was travelling from Emmental to Montreux last year, following the wonderful Golden Pass rail route. Our train paused at Montbovon, the start of a steep climb up to the line’s final dramatic mountain pass. There was the prospect of stunning views of Lake Geneva ahead. To the right of the railway, I spotted the bold sign: “La Gruyère vous salue” (the cheese lacks the village’s final “s”).With time to spare earlier this month, I returned to Montbovon to explore the branch railway that runs from there down the Sarine valley to Gruyères and beyond. This time I arrive on one of the new Golden Pass trains which now run through from Montreux to Interlaken, relying on some technical magic to slip from narrow-gauge to standard-gauge tracks along the way. The tourists in the posh prestige class are tucking into platters of charcuterie accompanied by Swiss wine. The climb up from Montreux is as magical as ever, twisting and turning up into the hills with Lake Geneva far below. Forty minutes out from Montreux, the train makes its first scheduled stop. This is Montbovon, a village that my old Baedeker guide advises is “noted for good cherry brandy”. I am the sole passenger alighting from the train, which after a brief stop is on its way again, now following the Sarine valley upstream towards Gstaad. Continue reading...

Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus review – a stark, emotional finale from master musician
In his last weeks of life, the Oscar-winning composer is filmed at the piano by his son. It is an almost wordless paean to a remarkable careerShort of presenting nothing more than music and a blank screen, this documentary about the late Japanese composer-performer Ryuichi Sakamoto’s last appearances is as stark and minimal as a concert film can get. And yet it’s a work suffused with emotional tones and shades, surprisingly not all of them sad even though the subject knew at the time of filming he had mere weeks left before he’d die of cancer. There are moments when director Neo Sora, Sakamoto’s son, turns up the lighting for the more upbeat songs and we can see the master smile, pleased with his own performance, or the composition, or … we know not what, as there is almost no dialogue, no nattering about the life. We had all that in an earlier documentary, Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda. In Opus it is the music, played by the man himself, that is completely sufficient to the moment and all that remains, with the occasional very human stumbles and missed notes. When he says he needs a break for a while, exhausted by a performance, the strain is painfully visible, audible, practically palpable. Continue reading...

Rightwing populists have many countries in their grip. Come to Poland: see how they can be pushed back | Anne McElvoy
Donald Tusk is working hard and fast on a great transformation, but travel the country and it’s clear what a difficult task that isMy formative journalistic years were spent reporting on the final freeze of the cold war – days of hard times and soft currencies. When I return to those countries now, I test myself on how well I guessed what would follow in the three decades since. On Poland in particular, I would have been hard pressed to predict the giddy zigzag of power still featuring a generation who marched to topple communism, but whose protagonists feud bitterly about how to govern the country in the 21st century. We talk a lot about places that have recently bought a one-way ticket towards authoritarian politics – Russia and Turkey for the full-fat versions, and Hungary’s democratic backsliding and stifling of independent institutions.
