Shama Amin Withdraws From The Apprentice On Medical Grounds
The Apprentice candidate Shama Amin was forced to leave this year’s series early on medical grounds. In this week’s episode – which was pre-recorded last year, and is set to air on Thursday night – Shama explains that filming the show has become too “physically demanding” due to her pre-existing rheumatoid arthritis.“Because of medical reasons, due to this process being so physically demanding, despite all the efforts the whole team has made to support me, I have had to make a difficult decision to leave the process,” the daycare owner tells Lord Sugar (per the PA news agency). “I would just like to thank you so much for this opportunity.”Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints and usually affects the hands, feet and wrists. With two of the new batch of contestants having already been fired by Lord Sugar, Shama’s premature exit leaves 13 in the running.Prior to the new series’ launch, the Bradforn-born candidate said she hoped to set an example to other Asian women watching the show.“Being a lady of colour, wearing a headscarf as well, and the challenges that we face on a daily basis, I just want to be a living example for the Asian women and South Asian women out there,” she explained. The Apprentice finally returned to our screens earlier this week after a two-year break brought about by the pandemic.Around 4.6 million people tuned in to watch its return, making it The Apprentice’s most popular launch since 2017.The Apprentice continues on Thursday 20 January at 9pm on BBC One.MORE REALITY TV:Drag Race Officially Ru-Veals The Queens For UK vs The World – Here's Everything We Can Tell YouDancing On Ice Star Bez Tests Positive For Covid A Day After Debut PerformanceThe Funniest Tweets As The Apprentice Returns With Disastrous Cruise Liner Task

OPINION - Big-Dog Bozza lets underlings take the fall — who’d have thought?
So, what I want to know is, is “Big Dog” a long-standing nickname, or is this its inaugural outing? I refer to Operation Save Big Dog, aka the planned sacrifice of Downing Street officials implicated in “partygate” in the name of saving their boss, Boris Johnson, who is — oh yes, that is where this sentence is going — the aforementioned “Big Dog”. Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be a kennel we can send him to.

Moon Knight: Oscar Isaac’s British accent sounds like Dick Van Dyke doing Alan Bennett
I expected Marvel’s new mercenary superhero to sound growly and cool, not like an 18th-century Leicestershire grandmotherIn theory, nothing on Earth should be easier to make than an Oscar Isaac superhero vehicle. Because he’s Oscar Isaac, for heaven’s sake. Bung him in a muscle suit, give him a quippy script and let him spend 85% of his screen time twinkling for the internet and, bingo, you have a runaway hit on your hands. But real life is complicated, and even the best intentions can result in unforced errors. I guess what I’m trying to say is this: what the hell is going on with Oscar Isaac’s accent in the Moon Knight trailer? Continue reading...

Richard Madeley And Susanna Reid Disagree In Debate Over BBC Licence Fee

For example, if I want to watch Netflix, I will pay for Netflix. And I do. If I want to watch Sky, I’ll have a Sky subscription and I do.”He then argued: “Why should I be paying for Radio 1 that I never listen to? Why should I be subsidising Radio 3 which I never listen to? I actually listen to Classic FM, rather than Radio 3… there are all sorts of BBC services which cost a lot of money that I’m paying for in my licence fee. Why should I?”Later in the discussion, Susanna – who spent more than a decade at the helm of BBC Breakfast before making the jump to GMB in 2014 – responded to Richard’s point. She said: “It’s interesting, because what comes to mind when you say ‘why should I pay for the BBC licence fee when I don’t listen to Radio 1 or Radio 3?’... you pay for the NHS through your national insurance, even though you may never want IVF, for instance. Or may never need cancer treatment.“There’s plenty of things available on the NHS that you would never access.”“But I elect a government on its agenda on how it’s going to spend my tax money,” Richard said. “I have a choice in that matter.“I don’t have a choice – it’s a matter of criminality – in whether I pay my licence fee, whereas I elect a government to spend money on my behalf on the NHS or anything else.”“Well, the NHS will be funded by whichever government you elect,” Susanna pointed out, before noting: “And there are services on the NHS you will never access.”Remarking on the fact that they were supposed to be moderating the debate, rather than having one between them, Richard then joked: “Sorry, excuse us…”Among those to speak out in favour of the licence fee in recent days have been MOTD host Gary Lineker, BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker and actor Hugh Grant.Laying into the government, Hugh said: “The BBC is something the whole world admires with envy.“It is entirely appropriate that the insecure, spittle-flecked nut jobs of this government want to destroy it.”Good Morning Britain airs every weekday from 6am on ITV.READ MORE:BBC Responds To 'Disappointing' Licence Fee Freeze As Nadine Dorries Faces CriticismHugh Grant Among Stars Defending BBC Over 'Insecure Nut Job' Government's Licence Fee PlanJulia Hartley-Brewer's Bizarre Critique Of BBC Services Goes Down Like A Lead Balloon
