Luis Suárez comes off bench to score Atlético debut double in rout of Granada
Luis Suárez spent most of his first game for Atlético Madrid sitting in the stands at empty Wanda Metropolitano watching his new team-mates win without him, then came on and showed them that they can win even better with him. There were just twenty minutes left when he ran onto the pitch, Atlético were already winning 3-0 and he only got fourteen touches, but it was enough for him to score two, provide another and win a penalty to complete a quite astonishing debut. We Are Made in Italy: digital fashion show highlights Italian diversity
Five little known black designers took spotlight on final day of Milan fashion weekThe fashion designer Claudia Gisèle Ntsama’s cocktail dresses are a feat of engineering, their spools of unravelled thread seemingly suspended around the body as if held in a spider’s web. Ntsama, one of five little known black Italian designers in the spotlight on the final day of Milan fashion week, supported herself by working as a cleaner while she created the collection, for which she cites the high-concept Japanese designers Junya Watanabe and Yohji Yamamoto as inspiration. The Haitian-Italian designer Stella Jean, a protege of Giorgio Armani who launched her label a decade ago, describes Ntsama as “a great talent of haute couture”. Jean, a campaigner for equality and diversity in Italian fashion, believes the challenges Ntsama has faced “renders her story all that much more extraordinary and admirable, considering how sophisticated and at what a high level her work is executed”. Reports of possible coronavirus cases in racing’s workforceBHA: ‘Come forward, so we can keep the show on the road’Racing’s ruling body is aware of possible Covid-19 cases in the sport’s workforce and issued a plea for anyone affected to come forward immediately, to minimise the spread and avoid derailing the sport altogether. “We have had some reports of potential cases,” Nick Rust, chief executive of the British Horseracing Authority said on Sunday, though he stressed those cases had yet to be verified.“We have to be very, very careful in our personal lives if we’re to help ensure that racing maintains its positive position,” Rust told RacingTV. “Come forward if you have a case and let us know, so we can isolate things as best we can to keep the show fully on the road. The dilemma faced by students and campuses | Letters
Universities cannot survive without the revenue generated by students on site, writes Maria Ryan, while Lotte Hondebrink says keeping access to education is essential. Plus letters from Prof Mahesan Niranjan and Margaret GabbeAs a UK academic, I think there is one key thing missing from your coverage of the safety of campuses opening up again: universities cannot survive without the revenue generated by students living on campus (Universities should be two-thirds empty to avoid Covid spikes, says expert, 25 September). This is not just about tuition fees; it includes accommodation fees and revenue from student bars, shops and sports centres. Since there is no longer comprehensive government funding for higher education, this is the only way that universities can survive. For most institutions, cancelling face-to-face teaching would be financial suicide because so many students would not live on campus. The blame for this should be directed at the party currently in government, which is responsible for designing this funding system in the first place and for refusing a comprehensive bail-out of universities that would allow them to cancel face-to-face teaching for the year and allow students to stay at home.
