Elton John Laughs Off 'Big Mouth F**king' Ed Sheeran Over Major Spoiler
Elton John said his latest project was so secret that even he wasn’t allowed to speak about it ― but it was spoiled anyway by his collaborator, Ed Sheeran. The rock icon told NME he has been working on a Christmas song with Sheeran for release during the upcoming holiday season.“I was sworn to secrecy and then big mouth fucking Sheeran goes to the Netherlands,” he said, referring to an interview Sheeran gave to Dutch radio station NPO Radio 2 where he spilled the beans. Ed told NPO Radio 2 that Elton called him last Christmas after his 1973 hit Step Into Christmas reached the top 10 again, according to Insider. “He said, ’Step Into Christmas is Number 6 in the charts,” Ed told the station. “I want to do another Christmas song ― will you do it with me?” Ed said he didn’t feel it at first.“I’ve never really wanted to do a Christmas song,” he said, according to Billboard, but the death of a friend made him reconsider. “It really just hit home how stuff can just change overnight.” There was also another factor: Elton John. “I was like, ‘Why the fuck am I not doing a Christmas song with Elton John? I might not be here tomorrow, this will be a fucking great way to celebrate Christmas,’” he said. There’s no release date yet.“We haven’t finished it yet, so there’s still work to be done,” Elton told NME. “I can’t say any more than that because it’s in his hands.”Ed said in a separate interview in September that he had written three songs with Elton “and one of them is out of this world.”  Ed had previously suggested the tune would be released in early December. However, he announced on Sunday that he had tested positive for coronavirus, which could potentially delay work on the song. Elton John just released his latest disc, The Lockdown Sessions, which is a series of collaborations with other artists. Ed’s ”=” album comes out this week. READ MORE:Elton John Didn't Exactly Pull Any Punches When Critiquing His Good Friend Ed Sheeran's StyleEd Sheeran Gave Elton John A Very NSFW Gift For His Birthday This YearSir Elton John Has Cause For Celebration As He Lands His First Number One In 16 Years

Songlines: the Indigenous Australian exhibition preserving 65,000 years of culture
With epic pieces that take in creation myths and spread ancient knowledge, this exhibition has taken Australia by storm and is now in the UK“Of course, you can look at the paintings on the walls and appreciate them for the beautiful objects that they are,” explains Margo Neale, head of the Indigenous knowledges centre at the National Museum of Australia. “But if that’s all you appreciate them for then you will be missing out on so much.”Neale is talking about Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters, which has just arrived at The Box in Plymouth, its first stop on a world tour after attracting 400,000 visitors in Australia. The exhibition features more than 300 objects – paintings, sculpture, ceramics, installation and film; works made by 100 or more artists mostly over the last decade, though the culture and ideas that inform them stretch back 60,000 years. From Manchester With Love by Paul Morley review – an epic life of Tony Wilson
The music journalist’s celebration of the TV presenter turned Factory Records kingpin captures the energy and intelligence of a complex but inspiring manThere’s a Jeremy Deller artwork, The History of the World 1997-2004, which connects acid house with brass bands. It does so via long, looping arrows and scrawled words such as “Throbbing Gristle”, “privatisation” and “the miners’ strike”; a visual mind map of connections between outsider music, local culture and political movements. Paul Morley’s detailed, epic book about the life of Tony Wilson is like that artwork.Actually, if you could zoom into the area of Deller’s artwork that ticks off “the north”, “Gerald”, “808 State” and, of course, “the Hac” (the Hacienda nightclub), then this book would be there, mapping the particular network that joins all these entities and others, moving between the past and the present, and showing Wilson as a vital hub. Universe: Brian Cox’s OTT space odyssey is no match for Attenborough
Full of CGI and grating displays of wonder, the D:Ream keyboardist turned astrophysicist’s new show is either trying to teach us about the cosmos – or lure us into a sun-worshipping cultI’ve been trying to figure out who, based on the defining factors that shaped Professor Brian Cox’s keyboardist-to-astrophysicist career pivot, might be our next Professor Brian Cox. We all know his origin story by now: Cox was a roving member of the English-Irish pop-rock band D:Ream, who are only now remembered for the adopted New Labour anthem Things Can Only Get Better. TCOGB was first released in 1993; Cox’s broadcasting career hit its stride in 2010, a gap of roughly 17 years. This means our ideal candidate will have released a single – which did well, but did not lead to a sustained top-tier music career – somewhere between January 2003 and December 2004.Fame Academy’s David Sneddon is an early frontrunner, with his January 2003 chart-topper Stop Living the Lie. Justin from the Darkness and Paul from S Club 7 (who had left the band by the qualifying January 2003 period – this, to me, is very Coxian) are both in with a shout, as is Daniel Bedingfield. One of my personal preferences is Charlie from Busted, who in 2003 was ascendant, in 2004 was huge, and by 2005 had left to form Fightstar – a perfect microcosmic music career within our parameters. But looking at it realistically the only candidate is former Pop Idol winner Will Young, who has a nice soft voice, is very BBC Two-friendly (he’s already been on Gardeners’ World twice), and has a 2:2 in a boring subject (politics). If we can fast-track Will Young a PhD then we’re good to go. Continue reading...
