Met Officer Killed At Croydon Police Station Is Named
A police officer who died after being shot at Croydon station by a man who was being detained has been named as Matiu Ratana. The 54-year-old was known as Matt, Met Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said on Friday night. Dick said the long-serving sergeant died in hospital after being shot by the man at the custody centre in south London during the early hours of Friday.A 23-year-old man was detained by officers at the scene. He was also taken to hospital with what is believed to be a a self-inflicted gunshot wound and remains in a critical condition.No police firearms were discharged during the incident and the Independent Office for Police Conduct is conducting an investigation. This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
