Ireland v Georgia: Autumn Nations Cup – live!
Minute-by-minute updates from the 2pm GMT kick-offSam Underhill helps England find a way to pass Welsh examinationEmail Luke | Tweet @LukeMcLaughlin with your thoughts 1.23pm GMT In the build-up to this afternoon’s meeting with Georgia, the Ireland forwards coach John Fogarty said they are ‘expecting a battle up front’, which is not the most insightful pre-match analysis you will ever hear. This Georgian side is famous for its forward muscle. But sarcasm aside, this is a big day for Ireland, who need to reassert themselves following that pasting at Twickenham last week. It’s an especially big day for the Ulster fly-half Billy Burns, who will make his full debut, and overall for an Ireland side which features nine changes. By extension it’s a big day for Andy Farrell and his coaching team who need to show that progress is being made and that they are developing a new identity post-Joe Schmidt. A criticism of their performance at Twickenham last week is they played into English hands by running straight and looking for contact. Perhaps such a policy would pay off today, given Georgia’s inferior fitness to England, but then again Ireland might do well to chuck the ball around a bit as well. England cannot be caught atop Group A, so it would make sense to put some emphasis on entertainment as well as achieving the right result at the Aviva Stadium, Lansdowne Road in old money. Southampton v Manchester United: Premier League - live!
Minute-by-minute updates from St Mary’s, kick-off 2pm GMTBruno Fernandes mentality powering United’s rise, says SolskjærFeel free to email Rob with your thoughts 1.02pm GMT Donny van de Beek starts a Premier League game for the first time, though it’s not entirely clear where he’ll play - United’s formation could be 4-2-3-1 or a diamond. Either way Marcus Rashford will be up front in the absence of Anthony Martial, who became ill overnight.Southampton are unchanged from the team that drew at Wolves on Monday. 10.55am GMT Hello. Even when Manchester United were the best team in England, Southampton were awkward opponents. They knocked United out of the FA Cup in 1992 and beat them at the Dell in three consecutive seasons from 1995-98. In the post-Ferguson era, they’ve been even trickier. United have won only six out of 15 games against Southampton in that time, and three of those victories were an affront to the run of play. This promises to be a really interesting match. Styles make fights, and Southampton’s high-energy, high-pressing game has given United plenty of problems since Ralph Hasenhuttl took over as manager. But they are without their best player, Danny Ings, so it isn’t the worst time to play Southampton. And it’s at St Mary’s, which suits Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side: they’ve won their last seven away games in the Premier League. Continue reading...
