Alec Baldwin Did Not Know Weapon Contained Live Ammunition, Court Documents Show
An assistant director unwittingly handed Alec Baldwin a loaded weapon and told him it was safe to use in the moments before the actor fatally shot a cinematographer, according to court documents.“Cold gun”, the assistant director announced, according to a search warrant filed in a Santa Fe, Arizona court.Instead, the gun was loaded with live rounds and when Baldwin pulled the trigger on Thursday on the set of a Western he killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.Director Joel Souza, who was standing behind her, was wounded, the records said. The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office obtained the warrant so investigators could document the scene at the ranch outside Santa Fe where the shooting took place. They sought Baldwin’s blood-stained costume for the film Rust as evidence, as well as the weapon that was fired, other prop guns and ammunition, and any footage that might exist. The gun was one of three that the film’s armourer, Hannah Gutierrez, had set on a cart outside the wooden structure where a scene was being acted, according to the records.Assistant director Dave Halls grabbed the gun from the cart and brought it inside to Baldwin while unaware that it was loaded with live rounds, a detective wrote in the search warrant application. It was unclear how many rounds were fired.READ MORE:Alec Baldwin Speaks Out On Death Of Halyna Hutchins: 'My Heart Is Broken'Hollywood Stars Pay Tribute To Halyna Hutchins After Crew Member Dies In Alec Baldwin On-Set Shooting AccidentAlec Baldwin Fatally Shoots Woman With Prop Gun On Set Of New Film

Springsteen and Obama on friendship and fathers: ‘You have to turn your ghosts into ancestors’
Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen discuss their dads, their unlikely friendship, and second careers – as podcast hosts President Barack ObamaGood conversations don’t follow a script. Like a good song, they’re full of surprises, improvisations, detours. They may be grounded in a specific time and place, reflecting your state of mind and the current state of the world. But the best conversations also have a timeless quality, taking you back into the realm of memory, propelling you forward toward your hopes and dreams. Sharing stories reminds you that you’re not alone – and maybe helps you understand yourself a little bit better. When Bruce and I first sat down in the summer of 2020 to record Renegades: Born in the USA, we didn’t know how our conversations would turn out. What I did know was that Bruce was a great storyteller, a bard of the American experience – and that we both had a lot on our minds, including some fundamental questions about the troubling turn our country had taken. A historic pandemic showed no signs of abating. Americans everywhere were out of work. Millions had just taken to the streets to protest the murder of George Floyd, and the then occupant of the White House seemed intent not on bringing people together but on tearing down some of the basic values and institutional foundations of our democracy. Britain’s oil and gas workers want a green transition – but the industry doesn’t | Erik Dalhuijsen
I’ve worked in oil for decades, and seen what happens when jobs dry up with no plan B. Now industry leaders must face reality too Moving to a green energy system and a zero-emissions society without leaving people behind is an enormous challenge. Many oil and gas workers are actually ready for the change, but the oil and gas industry itself is slowing the process, holding back real progress.Having worked in the oil industry in Aberdeen and abroad for decades, what I have seen feels like the industry applying all of its power to self-preservation, in the face of the immutable truths that fossil fuels will one day run out and that we must keep what of them remains in the ground. Erik Dalhuijsen is a consultant petroleum and sustainability engineer and a climate change activist living in Aberdeen Continue reading...

Ambivalence, industrial disputes and other issues are complicating city’s build-up to the climate conferenceDiwali candles in pretty terracotta pots are stacked around the counter at Suresh & Sons grocer in Finnieston, the Glasgow district that borders the UN-managed “blue zone” of the Scottish Event Campus. Next weekend more than 30,000 delegates from 196 countries will converge on the area for the crucial two-week Cop26 climate conference.Four days into the event is the Hindu festival of lights, Leena Kumar explains. The council advised her to talk to suppliers about getting stock delivered before the road closures begin this weekend, but it is not that easy, she says. “We are well-informed, but we still don’t know what’s going to happen,” she laughs.
