Android will soon make it easier to manage battery life on Bluetooth headsets
It's a huge pain when you don't know whether your Bluetooth earbuds are going to die or not. Google is going to fix that. Android users with Fast Pair Bluetooth devices will be getting some new features before the end of 2019, including more detailed battery life information and compatibility with Find My Device, Android announced on its developers blog Friday. The new battery features will allow users to see battery life percentages on individual devices. This means if you have True Wireless Stereo headphones, you'll be able to see the battery life percentages for each earbud and the battery life of their case. Plus, users will be able to receive notifications when they hit certain percentages. Read more...More about Google, Android, Fast Pair, Tech, and Smartphones

Marvel unleashed a torrent of news at Comic-Con Saturday including the reveal of a whole bunch of new movies and series for its post-Infinity Saga Phase Four along with new characters joining the fray. Enjoy the majestic derpiness of a baby sea turtle horde shimmying into the ocean
Sea turtles aren't hatched underwater. Instead, what happens is a mama turtle makes her way to a sandy beach, digs a hole, and deposits a bunch of eggs — as many as 350! — then covers them with sand and heads back to her ocean home. The eggs hatch about two months later, at which point the tiny newborn sea turtles, guided by instinct, dig their way out of the sand   and shimmy their way into the water. It's a beautiful gift of nature. It's also derpy AF to watch in action. This video gives you that unique opportunity. Watch as dozens of baby sea turtles excitedly derp their way to the end of the beach and let the lapping waves carry them off. It's downright hypnotic, and a lovely way to spend three minutes. The Orion capsule for NASA's next moon landing is ready to rock
The next trip to the moon isn't supposed to happen until 2024, but NASA is now ready to put living humans on the surface. On July 20, the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, NASA confirmed that work on the Orion crew vehicle is complete. The reusable capsule, designed to carry four to six astronauts, is meant to offer a "sustainable" option for carrying humans to other worlds, including the moon and, later, Mars. NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine called the new development "an opportunity to take a giant leap forward for all of humanity." The Orion capsule is supposed to carry humans to the moon in 2024 as part of the larger Artemis program. Read more...More about Nasa, Moon, Artemis, Orion Crew Capsule, and Science

Apollo 11 moon landing videotapes sell at auction for $1.8 million
Footage of the first moon landing taken in 1969 during NASA's Apollo 11 mission was purchased at auction through Sotheby's for $1.82 million on Saturday. The collection of footage totals about 2 hours and 24 minutes across three reels of film recorded at Mission Control in Houston, Texas. This footage is the "earliest, sharpest, and most accurate surviving video images of man's first steps on the moon," according to Sotheby's. The tapes include recordings of Mission Control as it waited for the lunar-surface camera to be deployed, as well as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin's first steps on the moon and the moment that the astronauts planted the American flag on the surface. Minus the 9 minutes of Mission Control footage, the tapes contain the entire duration of the lunar extravehicular activity (EVA). Read more...More about Apollo 11, Moon Landing, Science, and Space

Marvel's Phase Four is why it's exciting that 'Avengers' beat the 'Avatar' box office

Now, Endgame is out in front, with an estimated $1.5 million in weekend ticket sales bringing its grand total to an Avatar-topping $2.790 billion. The broken record was all but assured by the end of Saturday, which ended with just $500,000 separating the two movies. Forge a lucrative career in project management with the help of this training
TL;DR: You can get The Lean Six Sigma certification training bundle and access 25 hours of training, simply by naming your price. There's a reason why Jack Donaghy kept preaching about the virtues of Six Sigma throughout the entirety of 30 Rock. It's because it works. A project management approach focused on committing as few errors as possible, Six Sigma uses a framework — DMAIC, which stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control — to reduce defects in every process of a business. The result should only yield 3.4 errors in every 1 million attempts. If you couple that methodology with Lean, another approach that focuses on cutting down waste, then the idea is that your business will achieve peak productivity. Female Thor is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe
There's a new Thor in town, and it's Jane Foster. Marvel Studios announced as much during their Comic-Con panel Saturday, revealing that the fourth Thor movie, now titled Thor: Love and Thunder, would reveal Thor's erstwhile girlfriend as the new God of Thunder. The film will be based on the Mighty Thor comics, written by Jason Aaron.  Natalie Portman, who played the character in Thor, Thor: The Dark World, and Avengers: Endgame, will once again play Jane. Chris Hemsworth will return as Thor Odinson (and wow, is it going to get confusing real quick to have two characters called "Thor" running around). Thor will now be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe lead to get four standalone films. Audubon Society announces 2019 bird photography award winners
The National Audubon Society has announced the 2019 winners of its annual photography competition, and the birds are looking great. In addition to the Grand Prize, which went to Kathrin Swoboda for her photo of a Red-winged Blackbird, the contest awards prizes in four divisions: professional, amateur, youth, and plants for birds. There's also the Fisher Prize, which goes to a photograph "depicting the most creative approach to bird photography across all divisions." This year, the society noted that many of the birds featured are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, which bans the sale or trade of migratory birds, their eggs, and their nests. It remains one of the Audubon Society's trademark successes. However, the Trump administration has put the legislation in jeopardy through a lax interpretation, which does not hold industries accountable for "incidental" bird deaths that occur on their watch — including birds killed by power lines as well as disasters like oil spills. Animal shelter uses Area 51 meme in textbook display of chaotic good
The internet's collective plan to storm Area 51 in September may or may not pan out — but the viral moment has already done some good, helping 22 dogs find their forever homes at an animal shelter in Oklahoma. On Friday, Oklahoma City Animal Welfare events coordinator Natalie Winfree dressed up three of the shelter's most photogenic (and cooperative) pups in tinfoil hats in hopes of raising awareness for the organization's cause.  "Come storm our shelter," read Winfree's now-viral post on the shelter's Facebook page. HBO's new 'Watchmen' trailer clears up lots of questions and asks new ones
It's looking like HBO's take on Watchmen is, in fact, a sequel. This new trailer, which dives deeper into the story than any of our looks so far, pitches a story set a decade after the events of the comics.  From the look of things, the masked vigilante Rorschach inspired some kind of gang or cult that staged a terrorist attack in which police officers were hunted down in their homes and murdered. That led to a world in which cops wear facemasks to hide their identity. Also, Doctor Manhattan is apparently living on "fucking Mars" now. The trailer serves up a whole lot of star Regina King beating up bad guys, along with a first look at Jeremy Irons' aging Ozymandias and a brief, distant glimpse of Doctor Manhattan himself. The Damon Lindelof-helmed series is set to air on HBO in Oct. 2019. Read more...More about Hbo, Watchmen, Entertainment, and Movies Tv Shows

NASA imagines a 1969 webpage for the Apollo 11 landing
On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 touched down on the surface of Earth's moon. Now, 50 years later, NASA has imagined what the space mission's website would have looked like. It's a cute tie-in for the U.S. space agency's ongoing 50th anniversary celebration of the moon landing. The "website" is really more of a screenshot mock-up. It doesn't really have 1969 internet vibes because there was no internet in 1969. But it does look like an old-ass landing page from the World Wide Web. Here, see for yourself: Image: NASA / Gary DainesThere was, of course, an online world before websites like the one imagined above existed. I'm calling back to the era of services like Prodigy, America Online, and CompuServe, and to the Bulletin Board Systems that inspired those services. Watch Bon Appétit's Claire Saffitz try her hand at gourmet Pop Rocks
Claire Saffitz really, really did not want to make gourmet Pop Rocks. But she did it anyway, and we salute her. Instead of pumping carbon dioxide into her Pop Rocks or forming them under extreme pressure, Saffitz used a combination of citric acid and baking soda to attempt to recreate the candy's iconic, aggressive fizz. (Pop Rocks are famously the only candy that is also a jump scare.) Honestly, things go pretty smoothly — much more smoothly, it seems, than she expected. Alan Moore, writer worst served by Hollywood, calls it quits
If there's one thing that Alan Moore understands, it's dramatic timing.  The writer of some of the greatest graphic novels ever — Watchmen, From Hell, V for Vendetta and Batman: Killing Joke, to name the most overexposed — announced that he'd be hanging up his keyboard and retiring with the last-ever issue of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. (Also retiring: its legendary artist, Kevin O'Neill.) A corpus of comics that transformed the entire genre, arguably turning it into true literature, is now complete.  In the same week, the HBO series Watchmen — which has variously been described as a "sequel" and, more troublingly, a "remix" of Moore's 1986 masterwork — is about to unveil itself to a skeptical but excitable legion of fans. The first trailer for the forthcoming and still mysterious series drops at San Diego Comic-Con: ground zero for the forces of big-bucks Hollywood geekery that have torn Moore's work to shreds over the last 18 years.  Read more...More about Comics, Entertainment, Movies Tv Shows, and Books

Don't forget the computer that landed Apollo 11 astronauts on the moon
From the first steps to the leap forward, Mashable is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing with a series that examines its significance — and why we haven’t been back. The Soviets launched the first satellite into space. And the first man. Also the first woman. So when NASA astronauts rapidly approached the moon 50 years ago, a lot was riding on a computer with less than 80 kilobytes of memory.  By today's standards, it's a dinosaur. The Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC) weighed 70 pounds. Programs were literally woven into the hardware by hand — it was called "core rope memory."
