Die USA wollen dem ostasiatischen Inselstaat Taiwan F-16-Kampfjets im Wert von 8 Milliarden Dollar verkaufen. Pekings kommunistische Führung sieht die demokratisch regierte Republik Taiwan aber als abtrünnigen Teil der Volksrepublik an und schließt eine gewaltsame Eroberung nicht aus.
