Creating fake neon signs with spray paint
Adam Fujita, aka Adam Fu, is an artist who creates neon signage using spray paint.  He uses a large range of similar colors — sometimes as many as seven shades to create the illusion of a glowing light.  He walked us through the process behind creating one of them. Visit for more stories.  Following is a transcript of the video.  Narrator: No, this isn't a neon sign. It's street art created in a way that tricks your eyes into believing it's glowing light. Adam Fujita, aka Adam Fu, has mastered the art of layering very specific colors in order to turn regular spray paint into something a little more luminescent. And while figuring out the technique to create this look, he has also mastered how to manipulate the human eye into seeing an entirely different material. But how does he do it? All of his projects start on his iPad. He uses an illustration app called Procreate to play around with typography and lettering. Adam uses it to map out the placement and scale of the piece according to the size of the wall the project will live on. Once that's all done, Adam preps the materials he'll need once he's on-site. This means pulling all the colors he'll need and extra cans of those colors in case he runs out. For this mural, he has prepared seven different colors in the yellow and orange shade range. Then it's time to take the design and tools to the site.See the rest of the story at Business InsiderSee Also:An iconic bodega in the East Village is at risk of shuttering — here's why they hope a traditional NYC drink will help them surviveHow traditional French Camembert is made using raw milkA 10-year-old boy who used to get in trouble for doodling in school got a job drawing on the wall of a restaurant

How New Balance sneakers are made
New Balance is known for its comfortable sneakers. More and more athletes have been choosing to wear New Balance sneakers from basketball courts to soccer fields. Producer Fabiana Buontempo got a look at how the secret to New Balance sneakers' comfort is all in the soles. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories.  A transcript of the video is below: Fabiana Buontempo: What do tennis star Coco Gauff, NBA MVP Kawhi Leonard, and Liverpool soccer great Sadio Mané have in common? They all wear New Balances on the court and on the field. You don't have to be a sneakerhead to know that New Balances weren't always considered the "cool shoe." But somehow, despite steep competition, New Balance has entered the conversation. Reportedly, from 2010 to 2018, sales jumped by more than 100%, at a time when athleisure was making the biggest dent in the shoe market. So why are athletes across the sports spectrum flocking to New Balance now? The answer lies in the shoes' soles and the attention to detail in their manufacturing. 7 times you're better off spending than saving
Willie B. Thomas/DigitalVision/Getty Saving money is important, but there are times when it's necessary to spend. You shouldn't cut corners when it comes to spending money on things that improve your health, happiness, or financial situation. Read more personal finance coverage. Money is a utility that, in its best form, is meant to improve our lives. As such, there are a few times where a product, service, or experience is worth the additional cost (as long as you're not slipping into credit-card debt because of it).  For example, you're better off spending money on a life insurance policy to protect your family than not having one at all; paying a professional for help with your money if you're paralyzed by indecision; and yes, buying the latte if it's something you enjoy and it doesn't distract from your other goals. Here are seven times you're better off spending than saving:1. To maintain good health Mireya Acierto/Getty Images Your health is priceless. Whether it's opting for a more expensive health insurance plan at work because the coverage is better, ponying up for an Equinox membership, or picking organic produce at the grocery store, you shouldn't feel guilty about spending money when your mental and physical health is on the line.  2. To protect your family with insurance Layland Masuda/Getty Images If anyone relies on you for financial support, life insurance and disability insurance are a must-have. In exchange for paying a monthly premium, a disability insurance policy will provide an income stream if can no longer work due to an injury or illness and a life insurance policy will pay out a lump sum if you pass away. The average cost of a 20-year term life policy for a healthy 35-year old male runs from about $20 a month for $250,000 of coverage to $100 a month for $2 million of coverage, according to Policygenius. Long-term disability insurance premiums run anywhere from 1% to 3% of your salary. Ask anyone with life or disability insurance and they'll tell you: It's a small price to pay for peace of mind and financial security. 3. To buy things that bring you joy or save you time Flickr/Merlijn Hoek As long as you're cutting back on the things you don't care about, it's OK to spend money on the experiences, services, and products that bring you joy or make your life easier. If a daily latte, regular facials, a housekeeper, or first-class plane tickets enhance your life without distracting from your financial goals, spend away. Being good with money is the ultimate balancing act between needs and wants. Depriving yourself isn't sustainable and rarely leads to success. The US Navy canceled a routine Black Sea patrol after Trump complained that it was hostile to Russia
President Donald Trump called his then-national security advisor John Bolton to complain about a routine US Navy transit in the Black Sea, after seeing a CNN report that framed the operation as a counter to Russia. An aide to a top Ukraine envoy testified about this to House investigations looking into the Ukraine scandal. The White House ordered the Navy cancel the freedom of navigation patrol, although one eventually took place in February of this year.  The FONOP came in the wake of an incident in which Russia attacked Ukrainian vessels and detained members of the Ukrainian military in the Kerch Strait, a body of water connecting the Black Sea to the Azov sea. According to Anderson's testimony, the news report in question came from CNN and characterized the operation as antagonistic toward Russia.  Anderson testified that Trump called Bolton at home to complain about the article, and the operation was later canceled at the behest of the White House, Anderson said.See the rest of the story at Business InsiderNOW WATCH: A podiatrist explains heel spurs, the medical condition Trump said earned him a medical deferment from VietnamSee Also:Russia may have taken Israel's most advanced missile from Syria — and could figure out how to defeat itThe defense secretary begged Trump not to pardon accused and convicted war criminalsPutin says the Russian Navy's newest ship will soon carry a new hypersonic missile that may be unstoppableSEE ALSO: How a former British paratrooper prepared actors in '1917' to fight WWI's devastating battles SEE ALSO: Meet the Night Stalkers, the pilots who fly SEALs and Delta Force to their most dangerous and secretive operations

Trump says daughter Ivanka has created "created 14 million jobs"
Trump spoke at the Economic Club of New York today and surprised attendees with the good news that his daughter Ivanka has created "created 14 million jobs" in the United States. That's almost 10% of the US workforce. Thanks, Ivanka! From The Intelligencer: At a speech to the Economic Club of New York today, President Trump declared that his daughter, Ivanka, has personally created 14 million new jobs. The president announced this figure — so astonishingly ludicrous it would embarrass a Stalin-era pronouncement — and then repeated it twice more as the crowd applauded politely. The entire U.S. economy has created fewer than 6 million new jobs since Trump took office. So Trump is crediting his daughter with having personally created more than 200 percent of all new jobs in the United States. This is like supply-side economics but for authoritarian nepotism. These sulfate-free hair-care products define and hydrate my curls so well that even my second-day hair looks great
Amazon I have curly hair so searching for the ideal hair-care regimen has been expensive and frustrating. I was so impressed with how defined and soft my curls were that I've decided to only use DevaCurl products from now on. Product Embed: Product Name: DevaCurl How To Quit Shampoo: The Original Cleanse & Condition Curl Kit Card Type: small Width: 100% Height: 150% My hair is just wavy enough that it can become curly with some convincing, so I've been looking for hair-care products that can help bring out that definition with minimal scrunching. It's also dry and porous, so products that are heavy can weigh my hair down but lightweight formulas won't moisturize enough to keep my curls healthy. Needless to say, it's been an expensive and frustrating trial-and-error process.  DevaCurl's kit includes a sulfate-free cleansing conditioner, traditional conditioner, microfiber towel  In my search to find the perfect hair-care routine, I found DevaCurl, a dedicated line of shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and even hair dryers to satisfy the curliest of hair.
