Nic Claxton’s new Nets role won’t change with rough night
Nic Claxton hadn’t given Nets coach Kenny Atkinson any reason to keep him out of the rotation. 13 photos show Sydney under a blanket of smoke as bushfires continue to ravage the region
Mark Kolbe/Getty Images Sydney, Australia's most populated city, is being choked by a thick blanket of smoke from nearby brushfires.  At least six people have died since the fires started, and more than 420 homes have been destroyed in the past two weeks alone. Pictures of the city show Sydney's most iconic areas covered by a thick, gray layer.  Australia's most populated city was covered with a thick blanket of smoke on Tuesday as bushfires in nearby regions continue to cause devastating damage to Australian communities and wildlife.  A series of major wildfires have hit Australia's eastern coastal states of New South Wales and Queensland. As of 4 p.m. local time on Tuesday, there were several major bushfires burning in New South Wales, the nearest one in Gosper's Mountain located some 200 kilometers (125 miles) from Sydney.  According to the New South Wales air quality control index, areas in Sydney's north-west and east reported "hazardous" levels of pollutants in the air. The government warned that conditions would be "unhealthy for sensitive people, and could cause symptoms, especially in people with heart or lung disease." The heavy smoke made Sydney the 12th worst city in the world for air quality, behind global hubs with notoriously bad air quality like Delhi, Mumbai, and Mongolia's capital of Ulaanbaatar.  According to the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, in addition to the smokey haze, Sydney was also experiencing a heatwave with temperatures soaring to 34 degrees Celsius (93 degrees Fahrenheit).  Sydney is home to around 5 million people, equal to roughly one-fifth of the country's population of 25 million.  Here are 13 pictures that show Sydney under siege as fires continue to rage in the distance. The entire Sydney skyline was clouded by smoke on Tuesday. Mark Kolbe/Getty Images New South Wales remains under severe or very high fire danger warnings. Mark Kolbe/Getty Images In Sydney's Central area, tall skyscrapers were barely visible in the distance. Chick-fil-A says it'll stop donating to anti-LGBTQ groups. But its CEO is still anti-LGBTQ.
Chick-fil-A has long had a reputation problem when it comes to the LGBTQ+ community. Most notoriously, CEO Dan Cathy stated in 2012 that marriage should be between a man and a woman, prompting many Americans to deny themselves chicken sandwiches in the name of boycotts and stage protests at Chick-fil-A restaurants around the country. At the same time, other Americans joined Mike Huckabee in buying even more chicken sandwiches to demonstrate their approval of Cathy's comments. Years later, Chick-fil-A is still the preferred chicken sandwich product for anyone wishing to Own The Libs on their lunch break. And as recently as October, the chain’s only UK branch announced its lease would not be extended after LGBTQ+ groups organised protests at its location in Reading. Watch Seth Meyers reel off the massive list of evidence in the Trump impeachment saga (so far)
On Monday's episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host took a moment in the wake of Roger Stone's conviction to step back and marvel at the Everest-like mountain of evidence that has accumulated against Trump during the impeachment hearings. Which is handy, since there's so much of it that it's hard to keep straight. This included events that happened literally during the hearings, with Trump tweeting about former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch on Twitter while she was testifying. Several legal analysts have said this could fall under witness tampering, which, in case you are unsure, is a crime. Read more...More about Donald Trump, Seth Meyers, Late Night With Seth Meyers, Impeachment, and Roger Stone
