Nile millions of years older than previously thought, study say

They’ve also wondered how the 4,132 mile-long river kept its persistence for so long, continually flowing north, a very unusual direction for river water to take. Now, researchers believe they may have the answers to these...

When it's OK to work out with a cold and when you should stay in bed
Peter Bernik/Shutterstock Whether you should workout with a cold depends on the severity of your symptoms. Working out with a cold may relieve your congestion, but the relief is only temporary and could prolong your illness if you overexert yourself. A good rule of thumb is that if you are going to work out when you're sick, keep the intensity low. This article was reviewed by Rod Oskouian, MD, at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute. When your nose is dripping faster than the sweat from your pores, you might wonder if exercising with a cold is a good idea. While following a regular fitness routine is beneficial to your overall health, it's important to listen to your body and adjust your workouts when you're under the weather. See the rest of the story at Business InsiderNOW WATCH: 9 items to avoid buying at CostcoSee Also:No, you cannot get sick from being cold. 26 celebrity moments that went viral in 2019
Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP; Joel C Ryan/Invision/AP; John Nacion/STAR MAX/IPx Insider rounded up the biggest, most talked-about celebrity moments of the year. Celebrities went viral for their priceless reactions, controversial actions, and outspoken comments (among other things).  2019's standout moments include Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's intimate Oscars performance, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello showing fans how they "really kiss," and Kylie Jenner singing "rise and shine" to daughter Stormi Webster. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Bebe Rexha famously called out designers who refused to dress her for the Grammys because she's a US size 8. Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP In January, the "Meant to Be" singer shared a video online, speaking out about designers who she said weren't interested in dressing her for the Grammys because of her size.  "If you don't like my fashion style or my music that's one thing," she captioned the video. "But don't say you can't dress someone that isn't a runway size. Empower women to love their bodies instead of making girls and women feel less than by their size." Rexha's words resonated with fans and followers and she was praised for speaking candidly. Speaking to Insider, the singer said that she "was a little scared putting it out because a lot of times, you don't want to come off like this person that's always complaining," "I had to put the video out because I felt hurt, and I can't believe the positive response that I got," she added. "It was incredible." Rexha went on to stun at the award show in a halter-style Monsoori red dress with multiple tiers of ruffles.  Nicole Kidman accidentally ignored Rami Malek while on stage at the Golden Globes. NBC At the 76th Golden Globes in January, Malek and the cast and crew of "Bohemian Rhapsody" went onstage to accept the award for best drama motion picture. Malek portrayed Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in the biopic. While navigating through the people on stage, the actor had a brief interaction with Kidman, who presented the award. During the quick exchange, Kidman seemed oblivious to Malek trying to get her attention. Days later during an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," the "Mr. Robot" star rewatched the "very awkward" viral moment and said: "I've known her for many years, despite as it may seem from that video." "I have a feeling this is probably haunting me on the internet," he added.  While backstage at the Critics' Choice Awards, Kidman told "Entertainment Tonight" that they're "really good friends" and she was "mortified" by the blunder.  Will Smith's blue Genie from the live-action 'Aladdin' movie was turned into a hilarious meme. Disney In February, Disney released a new trailer for the "Aladdin" live-action remake. When people saw the CGI version of Will Smith's blue genie, they expressed a lot of doubt about the design of the iconic character. A lot of people were also horrified by the appearance, despite being fans of the actor.  The blue genie went on to be turned into memes and Disney defended their take on the character's look. Smith also called the intense reactions "very funny." NCAA basketball rankings: Duke, Louisville take over AP Poll
Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports ACC places four teams in the top seven. There’s another number one in college basketball as the Duke Blue Devils took over the top spot in this week’s AP Poll. For those keeping track at home, that’s three teams at No. 1 in three weeks as Michigan State and Kentucky held the top spots in the preseason and Week 1, respectively. The Louisville Cardinals moved up to No. 2, followed by Michigan State, Kansas, and North Carolina to round out the top five. Maryland jumped up one spot to No. 6, and the reigning national champs Virginia moved up two to No. 7 as their defense continues to set the standard this season. Kentucky dropped to No. 9 after falling to Evansville at Rupp Arena, the worst drop for teams that stayed in the rankings. This season has been full of upsets and close games already as no team has really established themselves as the team to beat. Three teams fell out of the rankings this week as two SEC teams — Florida and LSU — picked up losses and St. Mary’s fell to Winthrop. LSU picked up a loss on the road at VCU (now ranked No. 21) in a game negotiated as part of Will Wade’s buyout, and Florida followed up its loss to Florida State with one to UConn. The ACC, Big 12, and Pac-12 all had four teams in this week’s poll, with all four of the ACC squads coming in the top seven. Here is the full poll:

Dude pranks San Francisco by placing Airpod stickers all over the city
Every single person who purchases AirPods does so with the knowledge that the wireless earbuds could get lost at any moment. AirPods are small, and are crucially wireless, which means that they have the potential to fall out of an ear or case without their owner realizing. The size also makes it easy for a rogue AirPod to drop into all sorts of hard-to-reach crevices, which could force owners to invest in pricey replacements. Losing an AirPod has become quite the source of anxiety among Apple fans, but artist and digital creative Pablo Rochat decided to have some fun with the common fear by making life-size AirPod stickers to scatter around San Fransisco. It’s not just Boris Johnson’s lying. It’s that the media let him get away with it | Peter Oborne
The prime minister’s falsehoods are mostly left unchallenged. If this goes on, the integrity of our politics faces collapseIt’s Friday lunchtime and Boris Johnson is in Oldham. He’s live on Sky News, speaking to supporters in front of his Tory battle bus. During a speech lasting no more than 10 minutes, viewers learn that he is building 40 new hospitals. Sounds good. But it’s a lie that has already been exposed by fact-checkers, including the website Full Fact. The prime minister tells Sky viewers that “20,000 more police are operating on our streets to fight crime and bring crime down”. This assertion is misleading in a number of ways. Recruitment will take place over three years and do no more than replace the drop in officer numbers seen since the Conservatives came to power in 2010. Continue reading...

Paul George on the Clippers is even scarier than we imagined
Paul George is off to a hot start for the Clippers. George can make the Clippers’ dominance farcical. Paul George’s dominance turned comical midway through the Clippers’ 49-point win over the Atlanta Hawks. Off a Hawks miss, George leaked out for what looked like it would be a wide-open dunk, but Atlanta instead secured an offensive rebound. The Hawks had a five-on-four opportunity with George trailing the play. Up 34 points at the time, George didn’t sprint back, jogging past the halfcourt line. Atlanta hit the open shooter, Trae Young, who thought he was clear to launch from well behind the three-point line. He wasn’t. George lurked behind Young’s back and swatted the attempt over the 6’2 guard’s back. Young had no clue what hit him. George took the rebound, pushed it down the floor, then rewarded Montrezl Harrell with an alley-oop lob off the backboard. Shortly after, George checked out with 37 points on 17 shots. He played for all of 20 minutes. Paul George blocks Trae Young then throws an off the glass oop to Montrezl! #PhantomCam pic.twitter.com/HWwyINOIbk— Ballislife.com (@Ballislife) November 17, 2019 This is only the beginning of the Paul George era in LA, but he’s already off to an amazing start. Paul George has been incredibly good in his first two games George sat the Clippers first 11 games of the season recovering from surgery he had in June for a torn tendon in his left shoulder. Kawhi Leonard dominated in George’s absence, but now it’s been George’s turn as Leonard’s missed two straight games to a knee contusion. And George has carried the weight even better than Leonard has. In two games, George has only played for 44 minutes, yet he’s scored 70 points on 44 shots. He’s made 20-of-44 looks from the field, including 9-of-16 threes. He’s gone to the free throw line 21 times and made ... 21 of them. Paul George has been freakishly good at putting the ball in the hoop. “I got [a] new shoulder,” George said, according to ESPN. “I can’t say nothing else to that: I got new shoulders. And they haven’t been this healthy in a long time.” George’s scoring has come in all varieties. He’s been great drawing contact off drives in the paint, even finishing two strong and-ones through contact. He’s worked the pick-and-roll for mid-range jumpers, and curled off screens for open threes. He’s scored off the dribble and off passes from teammates. He’s been everywhere. Want to see a pretty shot chart? Here you go: PG and Kawhi together in their primes is going to be really tough to stop We’re still waiting to see the Clippers play both of their stars together, but when they do, it will be glorious. There may not be a more complete tandem in the league. Both are excellent defenders, great slashers and good playmakers. Both can shoot and get to the free throw line with ease without hogging the ball. Paul George and Kawhi Leonard on the same team alongside Lou Williams, Patrick Beverley and Montrezl Harrell is going to be absolutely wild. The Clippers already have the sixth-best offensive rating in the league, scoring 111.58 points per 100 possessions, which trails the Wizards, Rockets, Celtics, Mavericks and Suns. That’s with George playing less than a full game and Leonard missing four of 13 games, too. LeBron James and Anthony Davis have helped boost the Lakers to play the best defense in the league. They’re the most obvious challengers to George and Leonard’s starpower. But they don’t have as talented a supporting cast. If George keeps playing at a level anywhere similar to this, the Clippers could look like a heavy favorite when the playoffs roll around.
