6 celebrities who have opened up about their polyamorous relationships
Jim Spellman, Denise Truscello / Getty As the idea of polyamorous relationships becomes more common, more celebrities are coming forward about their own non-monogamous dating styles. YouTube stars and social media influencers like Tana Mongeau, Jake Paul, and Bella Thorne have been vocal about their "open" dating.  Here are six celebrities who have spoken out about being polyamorous.  Visit Insider's homepage for more. Polyamory is having its moment in the spotlight, with public curiosity about non-monogamy on the rise and more celebrities speaking openly about their non-traditional approaches to love.  Not to be confused with polygamy, Psychology Today defines polyamory as the "practice of having multiple intimate relationships, whether sexual or just romantic, with the full knowledge and consent of all parties involved." In simpler terms, polyamory involves sustaining a relationship with more than one person in which everyone is aware of the other partners involved.  While there are a number of prominent celebrities rumored to be engaging in non-monogamous relationships, here are six who have spoken about their polyamorous preferences.Actress Bella Thorne has been in a number of publicly non-monogamous relationships. Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images Bella Thorne, actress, model, and adult film director, is far from camera shy when it comes to displaying her non-monogamous dating style. Thorne first publicly confirmed she was in simultaneous relationships with rapper Mod Sun, or Dereck Smith, and YouTuber Tana Mongeau in an interview with Gay Times magazine. "I don't think anybody will really understand the bonds that I share with Mod or Tana," Thorne told the publication. "Yeah, we joke around about [polyamory], but we aren't in the sense that we don't put a word, a box or label too many things. It is what it is." Thorne ended her relationships with both Mongeau and Mod Sun earlier this year, but hasn't stopped displaying her open dating preferences on social media. Thorne's current boyfriend, Italian singer Mascolo, expressed his support of Thorne's newest romantic interest, Alex Martini, after Thorne posted a picture of her and Martini on Instagram. While Thorne has not labeled her simultaneous relationships with Martini and Mascolo as polyamorous, a slew of fans and publications have expressed support for the actress promoting non-monogamous visibility in mainstream media.  YouTube star and Instagram influencer Tana Mongeau discussed her polyamorous relationship with Thorne in 2019. Kevin Mazur / Getty Images Tana Mongeau opened up to her 5 million YouTube subscribers in January 2019 about her relationship with Thorne. Thorne and Mongeau confirmed they were dating in September 2017 while Thorne was in another relationship with Mod Sun. "It's funny because meeting Bella and going into it, in the beginning, I felt like there was this tension between Mod and I … " Mongeau said in the video. "Here I am just coming in and Bella wants me here but she has a whole a--- boyfriend and he wasn't my boyfriend and I didn't want him to be my boyfriend. He didn't want me to be his girlfriend. It was this weird thing of him and I sharing her. But after time, it became so harmonious and absolutely normal to us."  Thorne and Mongeau dated for over a year, and announced their split publicly in February 2019. "Being in that relationship taught me so much about myself and polyamory and openness and how close-minded the world can be — and how open-minded the world can be," Mongeau said in a video. Mongeau and YouTuber Jake Paul tied the knot this year. Paul later confirmed the pair’s marriage was an “open” one during an interview with ET Live. Denise Truscello / Getty Images YouTube superstar Jake Paul began his relationship with Mongeau in April 2019.  Paul and Mongeau got married this past July.  Paul confirmed in a later interview with ET Live that the couple had always had an "open" arrangement after hosts Denny Directo and Cassie DiLaura questioned Paul about Mongeau and singer Noah Cyrus possibly hooking up. "Since the start of our relationship it's been, like, an open type of thing because that's just how we both are," Paul said.  The YouTuber added that he would be more than fine with his wife and Cyrus sleeping together, "especially if I could be there." 34 of the best and most candid photos of the 'Friends' cast over the years
NBCU Photo Bank It's been 25 years since "Friends" first hit television screens, yet the show still remains one of the most popular sitcoms in history. A study last year revealed that it was the most binge-watched television show of 2018 with Netflix reportedly paying up to $100 million to stream it for another year.  To celebrate the milestone, Insider has rounded up some of the show's best and most candid pictures from on and off set. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Back in the early 90s, writers and producers David Crane and Marta Kauffman delivered a simple one-line pitch to NBC for a feelgood sitcom called "Friends." "This show is about six people in their 20s who hang out at this coffee house," they wrote.  After the show got the green light, the director James Burrow had such a "good feeling" about it that he flew the six virtually unknown actors to Las Vegas for what would be their last public outing without being bombarded by paparazzi. "I took them [the cast] to Vegas ... I had me and six of them and I said: 'This is your last shot at anonymity. Once the show comes on the air, you guys will never be able to go anywhere without being hounded,'" Burrow told The Hollywood Reporter back in 2016. Burrows was right. Their faces have since been screened in households across all six continents, making it not only a cultural icon but one of the most highly syndicated shows in television history.  And even 15 years after its final episode in 2004, the enduring success of "Friends" shows no signs of slowing down. A study last year revealed it was the most binge-watched television show of 2018 with Netflix reportedly paying up to $100 million to stream it for another year. To mark the 25th anniversary, Insider has rounded up some of the best photos of the "Friends" cast either on set or out and about, ranked in chronological order.1994: Jennifer Aniston revealed that initially, the girls were 'nervous' to work with Matt LeBlanc due to his modeling history (he used to model for Levis). E-bikes are coming back to San Francisco after Lyft resolves issues with battery fires
Lyft is bringing its rentable, pedal-assist electric bikes back to San Francisco five months after several battery fires forced the company to pull them from service. The e-bikes were only in service for two months when Lyft pulled a thousand of them from service to investigate a handful of reported battery fires. The bikes were also pulled from San Jose and Oakland. Lyft had previously been forced to ground its fleet of e-bikes in New York and Washington, DC after a braking malfunction injured several riders. It is still unclear when those bikes will be returned to service. Last week, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) said it struck a four-year deal with Lyft to operate a “hybrid” model of bike-sharing that includes docked and dockless bikes. Under the agreement, Lyft will begin to deploy 4,000 e-bikes in December, with a fuller rollout expected by April 2020. The announcement marks the end of a tumultuous summer for Lyft After investigating the “root causes” of the battery fires, Lyft said it made the decision to switch suppliers. The company is now testing the new batteries and reassembling its fleet of e-bikes in preparation to redeploy them in San Francisco “in the coming weeks and months.” The announcement marks the end of a tumultuous summer for Lyft, which owns the largest bike-share operator in the US. In addition to the battery fires and the braking malfunctions, there was also legal wrangling between the ride-hail company and the city of San Francisco. The company sued the city in June to prevent San Francisco from seeking other third-party contracts; Lyft claims it has a 10-year contract that gives it sole control of the dockless bike-share market. SFMTA argued that Lyft only had exclusive rights over docked bikes in the city. In July, a San Francisco judge issued a preliminary ruling in favor of Lyft and enjoined the city from permitting more dockless bike providers. The judge also distinguished between pedal bikes and e-bikes and gave the city and Lyft 90 days to negotiate a new provider deal for e-bikes. According to SFMTA, the new e-bikes will work as “hybrids” that can be docked at stations but also locked to bike racks around the city. This model will help “expand the reach of the system and provide citywide access to bikeshare,” the agency says. As for Uber, it will be allowed to continue operating its fleet of 500 dockless Jump e-bike in San Francisco until at least March 1st when its permit expires. “We applaud the City of San Francisco for not waiving its right to challenge Lyft’s claimed bikeshare monopoly in court, and we look forward to protecting riders’ rights to choose the transit option that fits them best by continuing our operations in San Francisco,” a spokesperson said.

Here's what it's like to live at the top of the second-tallest apartment building in the world for less than $1,400 a month
Ben Mack / Insider Dubai's Princess Tower was the tallest apartment building in the world until 2015. With a roof height of 1,286 feet, it is taller than the roof of the Empire State Building. It's so tall that sometimes clouds will form below the upper floors. Despite its lofty height and being in Dubai, rent is surprisingly affordable — you can get a room in an apartment for $1,400 a month or less, with utilities, access to amenities like a pool and gym, and daily cleaning included. For more than a year, I lived near the very top of the building, on the 88th floor. Despite not being fabulously wealthy, it made me feel like royalty. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories.  It's possible to live in the sky — even if you're not fabulously wealthy. One of the tallest steel trees in Dubai's glittering forest of skyscrapers is the Princess Tower. At 1,358 feet, it's the second-tallest tower that's open in Dubai, behind only the world's tallest building, the 2,717-foot Burj Khalifa. Until 2015, the Princess Tower was the tallest residential building in the world, but its crown was swiped by 432 Park Avenue in New York City. But unlike 432 Park Avenue — where, as Katie Warren wrote in February, penthouses can cost many millions of dollars — rent for apartments in the Princess Tower are surprisingly affordable: in fact, for 5,000 United Arab Emirates dirhams ($1,362) and under per month, they come in at barely half the monthly median rent in New York City (which is now more than $2,700). For more than a year, I lived near the very top of the Princess Tower, on the 88th floor (out of 97 above ground). Ben Mack / Insider With a roof height of 1,286 feet, the Princess Tower stands more than three basketball hoops (which, of course, are 10 feet high each) higher than the Empire State Building, which has a roof height of 1,250 feet. Facebook Pay is a new payment system for WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook
Facebook is launching a new payments system today, appropriately named Facebook Pay. It will be available across Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, and it’s designed to facilitate payments across Facebook’s popular social networks and apps. You’ll be able to use Facebook Pay to send money to friends, shop for goods, or even donate to fundraisers. The service will be separate to Facebook’s new Calibra wallet and the Libra network, and is “built on existing financial infrastructure and partnerships” according to the company. Facebook is planning to start rolling out Facebook Pay on Messenger and Facebook in the US this week, and it will initially be available for fundraisers, person-to-person payments, even tickets, in-game purchases, and some purchases from pages and businesses that operate on Facebook’s Marketplace. “Over time, we plan to bring Facebook Pay to more people and places, including for use across Instagram and WhatsApp,” explains Deborah Liu, Facebook’s vice president of marketplace and commerce. Facebook Pay will be available in the settings section of the Facebook or Messenger apps, and it will support most debit and credit cards and PayPal. Facebook is using Stripe, PayPal, and others to process these payments. Facebook isn’t revealing exactly when this payment system will be available across all of its apps, nor when it will launch internationally. Facebook Pay comes just weeks after a large number of payment companies dropped out of Facebook’s Libra project. PayPal, which is supporting Facebook Pay, was one of the first to distance itself from the Libra Association, the nonprofit organization that oversees the creation of the cryptocurrency and its rollout. Every major US payment processor has now exited the association, and it’s left Facebook with the daunting task of convincing governments that Libra is an option, just when trust in Facebook is at an all time low. That’s not stopping Facebook launching a more traditional payment system today, though. “Facebook Pay is part of our ongoing work to make commerce more convenient, accessible and secure for people on our apps,” says Liu. “We’ll continue to develop Facebook Pay and look for ways to make it even more valuable for people on our apps.”

Artisinal gin flavored with elephant dung gets you shit-faced
Indlovu Gin is a new spirit infused with elephant dung. Gives new meaning to the term "shit-faced." It sells for about $32 per bottle. Creators Les and Paula Ansley of Mossel Bay, South Africa, came up with the concept on safari after learning that elephants have a varied diet of plants, fruits, and vegetables but less than half of it is actually digested. “As a consequence, in the elephant dung, you get the most amazing variety of these botanicals,” Les Ansley told the Associated Press. “(I recall my wife saying) Why don’t we let the elephants do the hard work of collecting all these botanicals and we will make gin from it?" From the AP: After about five sizeable bags of dung are collected for a batch of 3,000 to 4,000 bottles of the gin, the droppings are dried and crumbled, then washed to remove dirt and sand. Eventually only the remains of the fruits, flowers, leaves and bark eaten by the elephants are left behind. Those botanicals are then sterilized and dried again and placed in an airing cupboard. Think of it like a “spice cupboard,” Ansley said. Eventually, the remains are infused in the gin. (via Fark) Read the rest

'Monday Night Football' commentator under fire after belittling criticism of 49ers kicker for missed field goal
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports The Seattle Seahawks beat the San Francisco 49ers in an overtime thriller on Monday night for their first loss of the season. During overtime, 49ers kicker Chase McLaughlin missed a potential game-winning field goal, with play-by-play commentator Joe Tessitore saying, "the moment was too big." Fans took issue with Tessitore's critique, saying he was unfairly burying a kicker who had already hit three important field goals for the 49ers earlier in the game. A pledge to end historical investigations of soldiers is undemocratic. Civilians should be able to interrogate what happens in warOver the past decade, stories about British soldiers facing prosecution for alleged crimes committed in Iraq, Afghanistan and Northern Ireland have steadily appeared in the news. In 2013, “Marine A”, Sgt Alexander Blackman, became the first British soldier to be convicted of battlefield murder since the second world war, after being caught on camera killing an injured Taliban insurgent in Afghanistan. The Telegraph backed a petition calling for leniency, and the Daily Mail called for his early release, later claiming it “won him justice” after he left prison in 2017. Earlier this year, crowds gathered in support of “Soldier F”, or Dennis Hutchings, who appeared by video link at the Belfast court over the shooting of a young man with learning difficulties in 1974. Hutchings is 78 and in palliative care. Successive Conservative prime ministers and defence ministers have loudly voiced their disapproval of these legal processes.Public opinion in the UK shifted from anger about the Iraq war to anger at those pursuing cases against soldiers Continue reading...

The Democratic elite is panicked about Joe Biden, but he's far more popular with voters than donors
Reuters The Democratic donor class' collective panic over former Vice President Joe Biden's weakness in the 2020 field is driving possible last-minute entries into the Democratic field.  Just three months from the Iowa caucus, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick have floated entering the race as moderate alternatives.  "This is coming from Wall Street. They're terrified of Warren. And these guys would help Biden. But they've been in a room with him up close and they have doubts," one Democratic donor told Politico.  But the concerns of the Democratic elite are unfounded. Biden holds a commanding lead among two demographic groups critical to the Democratic coalition: voters over the age of 65 and African-American voters, especially black voters without a college degree. Biden is also widely perceived as uniquely capable of defeating President Donald Trump, an appeal that can't be replicated by swapping him out with an ideologically similar candidate.  Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.
