Biden Snaps at CNN Reporter After Putin Summit: ‘You’re in the Wrong Business!’
CNNPresident Joe Biden lashed out at CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins following the conclusion of his first summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, curtly telling the reporter that she was “in the wrong business” while accusing her of misinterpreting his remarks. At the end of his Wednesday press conference in Geneva, following his meeting with the Russian leader, Biden was walking off the stage when Collins, who had not been called on by the president, shouted out a question: “Why are you so confident that [Putin] will change his behavior, Mr. President?” Biden stopped in his tracks and turned back to walk towards the correspondent, growling: “I’m not confident he’ll change his behavior! What the hell—what do you do all the time? When did I say I was confident? I said—what I said is, let’s get this straight—I said what will change his behavior is if the rest of the world reacts then it diminishes their standing in the world.”Read more at The Daily Beast.

Two Girls Were Snatched From a Tiny Logging Town. Is This Man Responsible?
Facebook/Find Lindsey BaumCold case investigators in Washington State used a genealogy database to identify a suspect wanted for a 2003 kidnapping and rape, and now believe the man could be connected to an unsolved kidnapping and murder that has vexed authorities for more than a decade.Paul James Bieker, 50, was arrested Tuesday for the 2003 attack, Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Brad Johansson said, adding that detectives are now probing whether Bieker might also be responsible for the 2009 disappearance and killing of 10-year-old Lindsey Baum.“We obviously have our eyebrows raised because of the similarities,” Johansson told The Daily Beast. “We’re a pretty rural area in a small town and the fact that you have two kidnappings in the same area within a six-year period is a cause for concern. We’re looking heavily into the Lindsey Baum case to see if he could be a person of interest in that case as well.”Read more at The Daily Beast.

‘Epstein Wasn’t a Pedophile:’ How British Fox News Copycat’s Launch Turned Into a Disaster
GB News/TwitterIn the weeks ahead of the launch of GB News in Britain, its founders promised a fearless approach that would see its on-screen talent break free from the cozy consensus of the woke mainstream media. Within three days of going to air, it has managed to do exactly that, by hosting a guest who declared to the nation that Jeffrey Epstein was not a pedophile. The new network, a kind of weird little British cousin of Fox News, hit the airwaves Sunday—and it’s hard to see how it could’ve gone much worse. It’s been beset by technical difficulties that have rendered it unwatchable, hosts have repeatedly fallen for joke names from mischievous members of the public including the all-time classic “Mike Hunt,” and freaked advertisers have already started abandoning the network in their droves. But the worst moment, by far, has been the appearance of author, reality television oddity, and royal hanger-on Lady Colin Campbell. The socialite, known as Lady C, was invited on air to share her wide-ranging and badly misinformed opinions about current affairs on Tuesday. She ended up offering a rare defense of Epstein and his pal Prince Andrew.Read more at The Daily Beast.

Crocs Are Cool Now (And They Always Have Been)
Photo Illustration by The Daily Beast/Scouted/ZapposScouting Report: Crocs are perhaps the greatest shoes out there. Whether I’m working in a restaurant or wading in the water, I’ll keep wearing Croc’s until they stop making them.If you’re like me and thought that Crocs weren’t ever going to make it, then we can marvel together at just how much these unique shoes have managed to establish themselves in cities, beaches, rivers and really anywhere that requires the wearing of reliable shoes. Despite being initially written off by some (myself included) as ugly (and they really aren’t), they shouldn’t be. I’ve come to find that Crocs are perfect for pretty much any situation.Crocs are molded from a proprietary foam resin which is frankly unbelievably comfortable to walk on. I’ve done 20,000 step days in crocs where I didn’t once think about my feet. The shoes are durable, too. The foam can take a beating and stay together. The bindings that turn the shoe from sandal into a fully functioning shoe haven't once come loose in my experience. They come in every color imaginable. I wear Crocs primarily as water shoes or as a go-to when I am running a quick errand and don’t want to bother with socks, but the variety of ways I’ve seen Crocs worn is astounding. Just about every cook or baker I’ve ever worked with swears by them, and kitchens are one of the most demanding environments for shoes. If your needs are specific, Crocs makes models that are a little more performance heavy and has slides or flip-flops if the standard pair isn’t enough to satisfy your Crocs craving.Read more at The Daily Beast.

How the Mission to Venus Could Unlock Earth’s Future
NASA/JPL/USGSNASA is finally headed back to Venus. On June 2, 2021, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson announced that the agency had selected two winners of its latest Discovery class spacecraft mission competition, and both are headed to the second planet from the Sun.I’m a planetary scientist and a self-confessed Venus evangelist, and here’s why I’m so excited that humanity is going back to Venus. This is the first time since the Magellan mission in 1989 that NASA has committed to sending spacecraft to study the shrouded planet just next door. With the data these two Venus missions—called VERITAS and DAVINCI+—will collect, planetary scientists can start tackling one of the biggest mysteries in the solar system: Why is Venus, a planet almost the same size, density and age of Earth, so very different from the world humanity calls home?Read more at The Daily Beast.
Is Deadly Everest-Style Tourism Coming to Denali?
Menno BoermansMount Everest isn’t just the tallest mountain in the world, it’s also one of the deadliest. This year alone it has claimed four lives and left several others brutally injured, even missing fingers and toes. And while Everest is known to be a yearly, deadly disaster, in part due to long lines near the summit, its counterpart in North America is vying for competition. The problem is not the number of people flocking to Denali National Park in U-Hauls—although this is happening due to surging rental car prices—or the cruisers who have reconfigured their Alaskan getaways. Instead, climbers and mountaineers are engaging in riskier than normal behavior on the park’s namesake peak, creating one of the deadliest climbing seasons in years. On May 3, a skier from Colorado on a multi-day trip fell into a glacier crevasse around Alaska’s Mount Denali and died. On May 13, a climber from Idaho was killed on the mountain by a falling block of glacier ice. His climbing partner was able to call for help, and despite significant injuries, was helicoptered off the mountain. A week or so later, a Canadian climber was seriously injured in what was almost a 1,000-foot fall, but was saved by a nearby helicopter doing routine glacier surveys.Read more at The Daily Beast.

When Celebrity Couples Get Together, They Dress to Impress
Photo Illustration by The Daily Beast/GettyKanye West and Irina Shayk are “casually dating,” according to reports. Accompanying photos published last week showed the pair jetting off to a luxury French hotel for the rapper’s birthday—as casual daters are wont to do. The new couple, whom TMZ described as “friends with benefits,” might not exactly be serious, but the outfits Shayk has worn for the ensuing paparazzi pictures sure are.First there was the $200 DMX tribute T-shirt she wore to honor the late icon, who passed away in April. It was designed by none other than West’s label Yeezy, in collaboration with Balenciaga. According to The Daily Mail, that product placement was the first sign for tabloid super sleuths that the two might be connected. Then Shayk stepped out in New York City after the trip to France in a black jumpsuit unbuttoned to her navel. Page Six ever-so-helpfully identified the one-piece, shoes, and purse as Burberry. Her accompanying bra was from Intimissimi, and her glasses were Celine.Read more at The Daily Beast.
Dems Rage at Biden DOJ: Your Moves ‘Make No Sense’
Photo Illustration by The Daily Beast/Photos via GettyWhen Merrick Garland was sworn in as attorney general in March, Democrats couldn’t wait for him to overhaul a Department of Justice that had started acting like former President Donald Trump’s personal law office. But three months into his tenure, many Democrats aren’t exactly seeing a turn of the page. While they have largely praised Garland’s first steps on key issues like voting rights, the attorney general has also presided over a series of decisions that have lawmakers frustrated or downright angry.“I am very concerned by what I had hoped would be a departure from some of the worst behaviors of the Trump administration,” said Rep. Mondaire Jones (D-NY), a House Judiciary member, who mentioned a number of issues Garland has been weak on in the eyes of progressives.Read more at The Daily Beast.

I Cleared Out My Entire Drawer for These Aerie Leggings
Photo Illustration by The Daily Beast/Scouted/AerieScouting Report: These leggings from Aerie are soft, yet firm and supportive, have a great waistband and aren’t see-through (!).The dresser drawer dedicated to my comfort and workout-appropriate clothes has always been one that takes a little extra arm strength to close. When I was a kid, ballet leotards and tights spilled out of it, in college it was packed with stretchy yoga pants and oversized sweatshirts perfect for any 8 a.m. class, and over the last year it’s been filled with monochromatic sweatsuits sharing space with thin bike shorts, stretchy spandex, tank tops, and old T-shirts I’ve accumulated over the years. I thought I was set, that I couldn’t possibly need to add anything else to my overflowing collection of athletic clothes, but then I found Aerie’s OFFLINE ribbed high-waisted leggings.A couple months ago, right as I was starting to toy with the idea of reactivating my gym membership after the past year’s membership freeze, I realized that my collection of athleisure items weren’t necessarily practical for working out. While I had countless pieces that you’d think would work well in the gym or mid-workout, I quickly learned that many of the bottoms taking up precious drawer space didn’t quite do the trick. I found myself often needing to readjust the waistband of leggings during burpee or stairmaster sets and triple-checking that the leggings that were advertised as opaque weren’t secretly see-through mid-squat or lunge.Read more at The Daily Beast.
Jimmy Kimmel Turns Marjorie Taylor Greene Into Hitler
ABCJimmy Kimmel was joking Tuesday night about a sharp increase in New York City subway cars “caked with feces” this summer when he made a hard pivot to politics. “Speaking of human excrement, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene did something unusual for her: She apologized.”The late-night host went on to remind viewers that Rep. Greene once compared Congress members having to wear masks to Jews being forced to wear the Star of David during the Holocaust. “Well yesterday, Klan Mom paid a visit to the Holocaust Museum in D.C. and I guess the field trip did some good because she apologized.”But when he played a clip of her “apology,” which included a reference to those who believe it never happened, Kimmel gave Greene a Hitler mustache. “But she’s here to set the record straight,” the host joked. “It did happen and it was bad!”Read more at The Daily Beast.
The GOP Doesn’t Care That Trump Planned a Coup. Do Democrats?
Illustration by Elizabeth Brockway/The Daily BeastThanks to the bombshell documents the House Oversight and Reform Committee released just ahead of Tuesday’s hearing on the Jan. 6 insurrection, Americans have a clear and unmistakable view of just how far former President Donald Trump went in trying to corrupt our democratic institutions, engage in a violent coup, and overturn our free and fair election.“These documents show that President Trump tried to corrupt our nation’s chief law enforcement agency in a brazen attempt to overturn an election that he lost,” said Democratic committee chairwoman Carolyn Maloney. She’s absolutely correct. I would add one simple edit: It’s Trump and the GOP. He attempted a coup—and, yes, we should all use the word—and he’s still trying with ample help from Republicans. If you consider that hyperbole, I direct you to those bombshell documents revealing how the Trump administration, including chief of staff Mark Meadows, attempted to pressure the Department of Justice to advance dangerous conspiracy theories of election fraud and influence courts to nullify the election results so Trump could stay in power.Read more at The Daily Beast.
Tucker Carlson Bizarrely Suggests Capitol Insurrection Was Orchestrated by FBI
Fox NewsTaking his Jan. 6 denialism to another level on Tuesday night, Fox News host Tucker Carlson suggested the Capitol insurrection was a false flag orchestrated by the FBI in an effort to “suppress political dissent.”Almost since the moment that former President Donald Trump incited thousands of MAGA supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol in order to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s election victory, Carlson has downplayed the violent riots, repeatedly insisting there was “no insurrection” and that it was nothing more than a “political protest that got out of hand.”At the same time, the far-right Fox News star has rallied to the defense of the Capitol rioters, portraying them as largely peaceful protesters while raging against federal prosecutors for the hundreds of criminal charges filed in the wake of the insurrection. With more rioters still facing potential indictments, many have taken to cooperating with the feds to avoid or lessen jail time.Read more at The Daily Beast.
Rick James’ Intense Rivalry With Prince Nearly Came to Blows
Mark Weiss/Tribeca Film FestivalThere are a number of eye-opening revelations in Bitchin’: The Sound and Fury of Rick James, a new documentary on the late funk legend from filmmaker Sacha Jenkins (Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men).In the film, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and will be broadcast later this year on Showtime, friends and family offer candid testimony of how the “Super Freak” and “Give It to Me Baby” singer suffered from a crippling addiction to cocaine, pills, and alcohol—and how those substances often made him monstrous, culminating in a 1990 conviction for the brutal kidnapping and assault of a woman that landed him in Folsom Prison.James was a complicated figure—undeniably brilliant and deeply troubled. He was molested at the age of 8 by one of his mother’s friends, and never seemed able to rid himself of the demons that haunted him. He was also territorial, and when a funky new artist by the name of Prince exploded onto the scene, James saw the musical prodigy as a threat to his throne.Read more at The Daily Beast.Got a tip? Parents, Coaches Face Possible Charges After ‘Wild’ Brawl at Kids’ Little League Game
via Facebook A knock-down, drag-out battle royale between more than a dozen parents and coaches at a kids’ Little League game could result in criminal charges against some of those involved, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported. Video of the brawl in Stanton, Kentucky posted to Facebook showed at least 12 adults involved, many of them shouting obscenities.Children on the teams, ranging from 5- to 7-years-old, were said to be left in tears after the violent melee derailed a planned trophy and medal ceremony.“Its [sic] really sad these kids that played hard all season and put their hearts on that field didnt get to finish their championship game because ‘adults’ wanted to act like this..... at a T-ball game....... I can't even.....,” wrote Destani Renaye Knox, who said her daughter had been participating in the game. Umps called the game after the fight broke out, according to local CBS affiliate WKYT. A transcript of a 911 call described people “getting pretty wild at the T-ball field,” and having a fistfight in the middle of the diamond. “[W]e have them separated now, but they might do it in the parking lot again,” said the caller, asking the dispatcher to send cops immediately.Read more at The Daily Beast.
A Priest Is Fighting the Church for LGBT Acceptance. The Catholic Alt-Right Wants Him Silenced.
Courtesy Tribeca Film FestivalFive years ago on June 12, 2016, 49 people were massacred at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. It was, at the time, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, with an additional 53 patrons wounded. Pulse was a predominantly LGBT venue, an example of what’s always been true: For the marginalized LGBT community, the gay bar was a place of acceptance. A sanctuary. A church. When a gunman entered that gay club in Orlando, he infiltrated a safe space. It was where a group of people cultivated their comradeship and identity, gathered in solidarity to be themselves freely, empowered, made change, and, yes, had fun. Like parishioners to a church, these people—to include this writer, we—gravitate to these venues as a natural-born survival mechanism. And there, in that safe space, 49 people were killed.Father James Martin remembers his horror at the news of what happened at Pulse. And he remembers the pointed, unignorable silence afterward from the leaders of the Catholic Church.Read more at The Daily Beast.
Welcome to the Age of the Robot Artisan
Ptmetindoerasakti/Wikimedia CommonsFailure of a machine in a factory can shut it down. Lost production can cost millions of dollars per day. Component failures can devastate factories, power plants and battlefield equipment. To return to operation, skilled technicians use all the tools in their kit - machining, bending, welding and surface treating, making just the right part as quickly and as accurately as possible. But there’s a declining number of technicians with the right skills, and the quality of things made by hand is subject to the skills and mood of the artisan on the day the part is made. Both problems could soon be solved by artificially intelligent robotic technicians. These systems can take measurements; shape, cut or weld parts using varied tools; pass parts to specialized equipment; and even purchase needed materials—all without human intervention. Known as hybrid autonomous manufacturing, this process involves automated systems that seamlessly use multiple tools and techniques to build high-quality components where and when they are needed.Read more at The Daily Beast.
‘Vanilla Kind of Guy’: Lawyer Roasts Capitol Rioter in Bid to Keep Him From Jail
FBI/Criminal ComplaintA California man accused of coordinating a group of “armed fighters” to stop the electoral certification of President Joe Biden on Jan. 6 is just a “vanilla kind of guy” who was simply angry at having to wear a mask, his lawyers claimed Tuesday.Russell Taylor, a 40-year-old from Ladera Ranch, is among six men federally indicted last week on a slew of charges, including conspiracy, for their role in the Capitol riot. Prosecutors allege the group, which contained at least four Three Percenters militia group members, arrived in D.C. armed with weapons, bear spray, and two-way radios in preparation for the siege. The other indicted members of the group include Alan Hostetter, a 56-year-old former police chief; Erik Scott Warner, 45; Felipe Antonio “Tony” Martinez, 47; Derek Kinnison, 39; and Ronald Mele, 51.Read more at The Daily Beast.
The GOP Has a Big Jewish Problem and Censuring the Squad Won’t Fix It
REUTERSIt’s good that 47-year-old Marjorie Taylor Greene learned this week that the Holocaust was bad. It’s something most of us have known for our entire lives, but MTG hasn’t had a lot of time for learning, busy as she’s been with CrossFit and stalking AOC for clicks and spreading antisemitic theories. Like all people who learn something new, MTG announced her revelations with a press conference about the badness of the holocaust she opened with the modest and somewhat confusing announcement that “I always want to remind everyone, I’m very much a normal person.” She concluded by complaining about socialism with the baffling, “There is no veteran that signed up to serve in the military and there nobody that fought for our country because they wanted America to be a socialist country, they did it because they want America to be a free country.” It was as they say, a journey.MAGA loves the Jews, well, sort of. One of the hallmarks of the far right is their obsession with Israel and their weird fondness for the Jewish people who need to be in Israel to help set the stage for the end times and the second coming. It’s a “love” that was helped along by mega donor Sheldon Adelson, who passed away earlier this year and who loved Israel, casinos and the GOP, though not necessarily in that order.Read more at The Daily Beast.
